JACOB BOVEY (1807-1879)

Son of John, Jacob was born on 27 Apr 1807 in Maryland. He died on 11 Feb 1879 in Mt. Morris, Ogle Co., Illinois and was buried in Zion Cemetery.

He married Delila Kretzinger on 05 May 1838 in Washington Co., Maryland, she having been born in November 1817 in Virginia. The family was enumerated in a census in 1850 residing in Pine Creek Twp., Ogle Co., Illinois. After her husband's death, Delila was residing with her son George's family in Pine Creek Township in 1880.

Son of John, was born in Maryland in 1825. He married Martha Brubaker, daughter of Benjamin Brubaker and Elizabeth (Kaufman) on 13 Jun 1850 in Mt. Morris, Ogle Co., Illinois. Martha was born in 1829 in Pennsylvania.

They were enumerated in the 1850 in Pine Creek, Ogle County, Illinois census, in 1870 were residing in Buffalo Twp., and later in Pilot Twp., Cherokee Co., Iowa in 1885.

GENERATION III
 

ELIAS BOVEY 1838-1902

Son of Jacob, and grandson of John, was born on 19 June 1838 in Washington Co., Maryland and died 24 Feb 1902.

Second in order of birth in his family, he came to Illinois when just a lad of five summers and acquired his early education in the schools of Ogle County. He supplemented a course or study at Mt. Morris Seminary, thus was he well fitted for the practical duties of life.

In 1867 he removed to Lee County, where his wife, Jennie Buckaloo was born in on 13 Aug 1844, she the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Horner (Ker) formerly of Pennsylvania. He and Jennie had one daughter, Emma before Jennie's death on 06 February 1877.

In 1872, Elias had embarked in the lumber business which was located on Water Street. After the death of his first wife, he married Addie Clute in about 1880. She was the daughter of shoemaker John W. and Henrietta (Peterson) who were early settlers of Lee County and had been married there on 21 Jan 1846. Elias and Addie had one son, Richard Bovey.
 

GEORGE C. BOVEY 1851-?

Son of Jacob, George was born on 28 June 1851 in Ogle County, Illinois. He married Adaline Hanes on 28 Sep 1875 in Pine Creek, Ogle Co., IL. Adaline was born on 13 Jun 1855 in Illinois. The family was enumerated in the 1880 census residing in Pine Creek. Their household consisted of one year old daughter Verna and George's widowed mother Delilia.

Daughter of John, Anna was born about 1844 in Illinois. She married Michael Wilson Zeller on 16 Sep 1869 in Ogle Co., Illinois and had daughter Effie G. Zeller who was born about 1871.

Michael was born on 03 Jan 1846 in Washington Co., MD. She was enumerated in the 1850 census residing in Pine Creek Twp., Ogle, IL.
 

LYDIA F. BOVEY 1845-?

Daughter of Samuel, and granddaughter of John, Lydia was born on 10 May 1845 in Washington Co., Maryland. She married John H. Brubaker, probable son of Benjamin Brubaker and Elizabeth (Kaufman) on 27 Nov 1866 in Ogle Co., IL. John was born about 1839 in Pennsylvania.

John was counted in a census in 1850 in Pine Creek Twp., Ogle, IL listed as age eleven, and was later enumerated in 1880 in Woosung, Ogle Co., Illinois.

SAVILLA MARTIN BOVEY 1850-?

Savilla was the daugther of Samuel, and was born on 15 Mar 1850 in Mt. Morris, Ogle County, Illinois. She was listed as three months old residing in Pine Creek Township.

Savilla married Charles W. Johnson, son of Aaron H. Johnson and Marietta (Boone) on 29 Dec 1868 in Ogle Co., IL. Charles was born on 27 May 1845 in Jefferson Co.,West Virginia and had gone to Ogle County in 1846 arriving there in October and settling at Pine Creek. He enlisted in April 1864 in Co. I 140th IL Vol Infantry and was discharged 29 Oct 1864. After the war he married Savilla and purchased the Peter Newcomer place which was a brick home built in 1842.

They were the parents of at least: Bertha, Nellie J., Francis M. and Etta M. Johnson.
 

JOHN F. BOVEY 1837-1922

John was the son of David and grandson of John. He was born on 04 Jan 1837 in Washington Co., Maryland and died on 19 Nov 1922.

He had remained on the Bovey homestead in Pine Creek Township until 1875 at which time he moved to Grand Detour Twp. He married (1) Martha A. Dunlap, daughter of Isaac, on 12 Jan 1860 in Ogle Co., Illinois. Martha was born about 1840 in Pennsylvania and died on 18 Mar 1881. She had been enumerated in the 1880 census residing in Grand Detour Township.

John married (2) Emma Yates on 11 Apr 1882 in Mt. Morris, Ogle, IL. Emma was born on 09 Sep 1855 in Ogle Co., Illinois and was the daughter of George and Adilla M. (Crane). John and Emma were the parents of at least Franklin W. Bovey who was born Dec 1883 and was enumerated with them in the 1900 census living in Grand Detour Twonship.

EMMA C. BOVEY 1852-1932

Daughter of Daniel and granddaughter of John, Emma was born on 09 June 1852 in Lee County, Illinois. She died on 03 Sep 1932 in Cherokee, Cherokee County, Iowa and was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Emma was counted in a census in 1870 census residing in Buffalo Twp., Ogle County, Illinois listed as a school teacher living with her parents. She was later enumerated in 1880 in Palmyra, Lee County, Illinois; 1910 in Alta, Buena Vista Co., Iowa; and there again in 1920.

Her obituary indicates she was the oldest child of twelve, five surviving her: Mrs. Margaret Garner, Miss Mary Bovey, Charles Bovey of Cherokee, and Mrs. Preston Searle of New York City.

Emma married Deforest J. Johnson, son of Harvey E. Johnson and Mary Jane (Wheat) on 24 Dec 1872 in Woosung,Ogle Co., IL. Deforest was born on 13 Apr 1850 in Lee County, IL. He died on 02 Apr 1920 in Cherokee, Iowa and was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Deforest had been counted in the census records of 1850-1880 in Palmyra, Lee County, Illinois and in 1910 and 1920 in Alta, Buena Vista County, Iowa. He had gone to Cherokee County in 1875 and settled in Pitcher township until 1889 when he moved to Cherokee. The family was enumerated in the 1900 census residing in the city of Cherokee. In 1909, he removed to Alta and lived near his son but returned to Cherokee in March of 1920.

  4. Myrtle Estelle Johnson - born on 22 Mar 1882 in Lee Co., IL. Her father's obituary indicates she was living in Waterloo at the time of his death in 1920. Myrtle married Hiram N. Seely, son of Hiram Seely and Henrietta. Hiram was born in Oct 1884 in Iowa and was enumerated in the 1900 census residing in Sheridan, Cherokee County, Iowa.

  5. Chester Harvey Johnson - born on 24 Apr 1885 in Cherokee Co., Iowa. He was a prominent doctor and sometimes referred to as "Doc." His father passed away at his home after a short illness.

  6. Frank Preston Johnson - born on 21 Jul 1887 in Cherokee Co., Iowa. He had been counted in a census in 1910 in Alta, Buena Vista County, Iowa, but later moved and was listed as living in Fargo, Cass Co., North Dakota. He had been a newspaper reporter/columnist and an Illinois State Senator from Kewanee.

  7. Geneva Margaret Johnson - born on 14 Jan 1890; died on 20 Jun 1961.
 

CALLIE BOVEY 1855-1932

Daughter of Daniel and granddaughter of John, Callie was born on 16 Apr 1855 in Ogle Co., IL. She married David Clayton Holly, son of David Ayers Holly and Eve A. (Hoke) on 24 Dec 1872 in Woosung, Ogle Co., Illinois. David was born on 01 Jan 1843 in Dixon, Lee Co., Illinois.

In 1900 Callie and David were residing in Sheridan Twp., Cherokee Co., Iowa. Their household included Harry, Robert and Vernie, the older children, Anna and George had already married.

David died on 13 Aug 1920 in Hewitt, Todd Co., Minnesota and was buried 15 Aug 1920 in Hewitt Cemetery. Callie died on 10 Jun 1932 in Hewitt, Todd Co., Minniesota and was buried on the 12th of June in Hewitt Cemetery.

GEORGE F. HOLLY 1876-1955

Son of Callie (Bovey) and David Holly, George was born on 22 Sep 1876 in Lee Co., IL. He died on 28 Feb 1955 in Hewitt, Todd Co., Minnesota and was buried on 03 Mar 1955 in Hewitt Cemetery.

George married Grace Johnson, daughter of Franklyn Fremont Johnson and Ida May (Rand) in about 1901. Grace was born on 29 Dec 1878 in Ogle Co., Illinois and died on 28 Feb 1955 in Hewitt, and was laid to rest in Hewitt Cemetery.

She was the wife of Glen Edward Pierce, son of Frank Orlando Pierce and Mabel Clair (Brewer) who had been born on 11 July 1900 in Webster City, Hamilton, Iowa. Glen passed away on 18 Sep 1959 in Breckinridge, Wilkin, Minnesota and was laid to rest on 23 Sep 1959 in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, Iowa.
