| Archibald
was born in Ohio in about 1818 and was the son of
Christopher Anthony Ballard and his wife Eleanor
Mossman. He married Matilda in July of 1838 and
were the parents of nine children. They removed to California
and lived in Volcano, Amador County where Matilda
died in 1862. Archibald survived her five years
and died in Almo, Contra Costa County in 1867.
