Ballard was the daughter of Christopher
Anthony Ballard and his wife Eleanor
(Mossman). She was born in Grayson County, VA
on 31 Aug 1810. At the age of eighteen, in
Springfield, Illinois, she married Samuel C.
Meredith, the son of John and Elizabeth
formerly of Greene County, PA where he was
born in 1807. Daughter Emily Ellen, pictured
here with her mother, was born in
Centerville, Wayne County, IN on 19 Jan 1842.
She later married Captain Edward Willis
Nicholson and was the mother of Meredith
Nicholson who was an author and diplomat.
