| The first appearance of a
Ballard into the Moore-Pilcher relations may be
that of William Ballard who descended from the
family of Worcester County, England and came to
James Citie, Virginia. Once owners of the
historic Middle Plantation upon which some of the
city of Williamsburg and the College of William
& Mary now stands, the Ballards of Virginia
became Quakers, and like most of the Tidewater
Friends, the younger sons moved westward and
patented land in the territories as they opened
and continued to move into the frontiers. The area in which
William Ballard was born, known now as Campbell
County, had been formed from Bedford County in
1753 and is situated on the south side of the
upper portion of the James River. The
Ballards had remained in this general area until
the early 1800's when William's great-grandson,
Christopher Anthony Ballard, moved to Ohio.
The Ballard
information on these pages is focused on the
descendants of Byrom Ballard, however if you contact me I may have
information on others as my search has led me to
many other researchers - none of which descend
from my same line, but who have valuable
information on the Ballard siblings and their
descendants.
If you are
interested in the DNA markers of the Ballard
line, you may wish to visit David Boyett's "Ballard DNA
Surname Project" - this particular line being
115902-B24.
Links will take you to the
extracted census records, obits, photos etc.

Byrom who had settled in Campbell County, VA in

Ballard married Elizabeth Anthony, the daughter
of Christopher Anthony & Judith Moorman at
the South River Monthly Meeting in 1788. They

him being married to Louisa (2nd wife born in NY)

located again until 1860 at which time she was
listed in the household of her daughter, Caroline

Eleanor never
remarried. She died in Canton on 08 Feb 1875. A
