Notes: Alexander served in
the Civil War as Captain in 14th MO Cavalry. His
military papers are on file. His younger brother
Edward McCafferty Pilcher was born 07 Mar 1843 in
Springfield, Illinois and was a twin of Eleanor.
Edward died in February 1884 and Alex in October
1884.

Note: The signature of Alex (shown
below) is from his request for leave while in
serving the Union. His signature on this letter
was signed simply "Alex."
Tom, as
mentioned here is in reference to his
brother-in-law, Thomas A. Moore, married to his
sister Clarissa.

Dear
Brother
This
leves us all well I am geting stronger am feeling
like a new man This is a good and healthy country
the peopel are plane and good harted and I think
a little bit lazzy.
Ed if
you have got that from Goshen let me have part of
it. Al Simpkins is my debtor 250 I wish you would
collect it and send it to me. I would not bother
you but I will need every cent I can to get my
land located.
You can
tell Tom if I am short I will hold him to his
word. I will go to Springfield as soon as Charlie
gets from thare with the horse I think I will be
strong enuf to go to work by that time. I have
had no letters from any of you yet altho I have
written all of you. It cost me like the devel to
get here
write
soon dont put it of till the last minute
dont think that you have got rid of me
altogether.
