Ezekial Sudbury died in Chesterfield Co. VA in 1757. He is mentioned in the Register of Henrico Parish Church, Henrico County, in which he was paid \\$200 from burying Henry Exon. He is also mentioned in Chesterfield County, along with Ezekiel Sudbury, the younger, his reputed son. Another reference is Ezekiel Sudbury, the elder, for love & affection to my son Ezekiel Sudbury. He was married 1st to Patience who was probably the daughter of Henry and Patience Turner. She died before July 1746.
Ezekiel then married Anne. There was no will but a writing purporting to be the noncupative will of Ezekiel Sudbury was presented by Ann Sudbury, Exec. and proved by Benjamin Farmer and Thomas Farmer. Here is a portion of that document: Memorandum that on the Twenty fifth day of January 1737 Ezekiel Sudbury late of the County of Chesterfield dec'd, in this last sickness and at his own house sent for Benjamin Farmer and Thomas Farmer in order to get his last will and testament made in writing but they not thinking themselves qualified to draw such will declined it and then the said Ezekiel then and there speaking of the disposal of his estate made use of the words following as near as the witnesses can remember to wit. Remember what I say, "all that I am now possessed with I give to my wife and called on the said Benjamin Farmer, Thomas Farmer & Elizabeth Farmer to bear witness of the same. Dec. 1756-Jan. 1757-Sept. 1757. The children of Ezekiel Sudberry were Ezekiel Jr., Hannah, Patience, David, William, Simon W., and John Sr. John Sudbury, who died 1809 in Amelia Co. VA married Sally, who was possibly a Wilson. Children of John and Sally were William Wilson, John Jr., and Sally. The Sudberry's who came to Tennessee became identified with the Methodist Episcopal Church. One of those, William Wilson Sudbery moved to Tennesse about 1837, after the birth of all his children, and lived there the rest of his life. His wife, Oney, lived to be 101 years old and died in Bedford County, TN. William Wilson Sudberry was born 1780 in Amelia County VA and died in Bedford Co. TN between 1860 and 1870. He married May 7, 1807 in Prince George Co. VA, Oney Rudd who was born 1782 in VA and died 1883 in Bedford Co. TN. They are probably buried in the Sudberry Cemetery near Longview Rd. and Kingdom Rd. intersection. Children of William Wilson and Oney Rudd include Patrick Henry, John L., Mary E., Susan Ellen Elizabeth, Mariah Catherine, and probably four other children. Patrick Henry Sudberry was born 1817 in Prince George Co. VA and died 1897 in Rutherford Co. TN. He married Sarah Jane Smotherman who was born 1822 and died 1898 in Rutherford Co. TN. Patrick Henry and Sarah Jane are buried about 2 miles north of their home in the Leb Community. Patrick Henry Sudberry donated the land for Old Leb Church. He was a blacksmith and a farmer. Children of Patrick Henry and Sarah Jane were William Christopher, Richard Pitts, and Ona Elizabeth. |
