JAMESON, KEENEY, RANDLEMAN, STUMBO, PENDERGRAFT & SEAMSTER Family Lines by Cindy L. Marcell

Notes

Daniel Nance , Jr.

Biography: Daniel was the son of Daniel Nance Sr. (whose wife was possibly named Elizabeth) and was born about 1788. He was born in what is now present-day West Virginia. It was in 1788 that a fort was established in Kanawha Co. to give protection to incoming settlers. Settlement by the whites there was fiercely resisted by the Indians. Daniel married in the year 1812 in Kanawha Co., (West) Virginia to Lavina Kingery. She was possibly the daughter of Peter Kingery, who was born in Pennsylvania and died in Lawrence Co. on 16 May 1872 at 102 years, 2 months and 1 day of age! Daniel and Lavina were married by a Rev. John Lee. Lavina was born c. 1792. There were two Daniel Nances in Kanawha Co., (West) Virginia in 1806-1809, but evidently soon after the 1812 marriage, they came to Ohio and settled in Lawrence Co. where Daniel Jr. owned a farm on Buck Creek. In 1828, the tax listing for Mason Twp., Lawrence Co. gives both a Daniel Nance and Daniel Nance Sr. The death date for Daniel Jr. is not known, but it appears to have been before 1840. In the census that year, Lavina is listed as head of household with six of their children at home at that time. This was also in Mason Twp. Daniels heirs sold land on 14 March 1851, to Lemuel S. Rucker.
Children: Lana, Jane, Samuel Finley Vinton, Rebecca, John, Banister, Sarah, Elizabeth.

"One of my great, great, great, great grandparents is also Daniel Nance, Jr., and Lavina Kingery. I show Daniel Jr. was born about 1790 rather than 1785 tho. Census and marriage records seem to indicate that.

The 1820 Census of Lawrence Co., OH., page #103-A listed him as Daniel Nance and gave his age as of 26 and under 45 years of age, i.e., born prior to 1794 and after 1775.

The 1830 Census of Mason Twp., Lawrence Co., OH., page #332, listed "Danial" Nance as a male who was of 40 and under 50 years of age, i.e., born prior to 1790 and after 1780. However, his parents, Daniel Nance, SR. and Sarah Russell, were married in 1789, so it seems likely he was simply 40 years old in 1830, i.e., born in 1790.

As to Lavina, I'm inclined to agree with you that she was most likely a daughter of Peter Christian Kingery, SR. and his wife Catherine Seabold (daughter of Leonard). Especially since Peter Kingery and Sarah Davis were married in 1800 and Lavina Kingery was born about 1793. Unless Peter was married prior to his marriage to Sarah Davis it seems unlikely that he could have been the father of Lavina."
