Last Will & Testament
Wake County, NC, December 22, 1838

In the presence of God Amen.

I, Mary Strickland, of the county of Wake, and state of North Carolina, being in perfect mind and memory, blessed by God, do, this twenty-second day of December, the year of our Lord, One thousand Eight Hundred and Thirty Eight, make and publish this, my last will and testament in manner as follows:

I commit my soul to Almighty God, my body to the dust, which it came to be interred in a decent manner. As for my estate, after paying all my just and lawful debts, I give as follows:

First: I give unto my daughter, ELIZABETH EARP, one dollar;
I give unto my daughter, MATILDA ALFORD, one dollar;
Also, I give to my neice SARAH, one dollar;
I give to my two sons, CLEMONS and SAMUEL STRICKLAND, each one dollar;

The balance of my estate, I ------between my three youngest daughters, namely, PATIENCE, NANCY DIKE and CHINEY E. STRICKLAND equally and I do make and ordain my beloved son SAMUEL STRICKLAND, Executor, to this, my last will and testament in witness whereof, I, Mary Strickland, testator of this, my last will and testament have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal.
