I am seeking all genealogical and biographical details for the family documented below including their ancestors, children, and grandchildren and the spouses thereof, including the full names of those spouses' parents. All additions and corrections within this scope, however speculative, will be greatly appreciated. John Bennett of Stonington, Massachusetts Dorothy (Bennett) Inderkum of Sacramento, California provided the bulk of information on the Bennett, White, and Harrington families, as well as some additional information on the Park/e family. I had the pleasure of her correspondence after reading her article in the Rhode Island Genealogical Register, "Some Descendants of John and Elizabeth (Park) Bennett who lived in Rhode Island" (October 1980, 177-180). With Dorothy's assistance, I was able to trace my Bennett lineage back to John-1 Bennett of Stonington, Connecticut. Some of the Bennetts of Western Steuben County, New York are descendants of Solomon-5 Bennett (Thomas-3-4, John-2-1), early pioneer of Canisteo. Incidentally, Bennetts Creek flows through the family farm of the compiler's Streeter ancestors in Greenwood, Steuben County, New York. 1. John-1 Bennett, died at Stonington, New London County, Connecticut 22 October 1691. He was married at Rehoboth, Bristol County, Massachusetts in 1635 to Ursula White (William-1), born about 1637, daughter of William-1 and Elizabeth (_____) White of Boston, Massachusetts. From the diary of Thomas-1 Miner we learn that a: "John benit & his wife whiped upon the .13th of June 1661." This John Bennet may not be identical with John-1 because on "The 16. of februarie 1663. John Benit died and was Buried the 18 day," well before the family of John-1 was complete. Children: i. John-2, b. 1658; d. 11 Feb 1660. ii. William, b. 18 April 1660; d. Joseph, b. 20 March 1681; m. 4 Nov 1702 Sarah Bequess/Beckwith. 2. John-2 Bennett (John-1) was at born Stonington, New London County, Connecticut 10 or 19 February 1666 and died at Preston, New London County, Connecticut 20 December 1745. He was married probably at Stonington on 8 March 1687 to Elizabeth Parke (Samuel-2, Robert-1), probably the daughter of Samuel-2 Parke, born 1670, died 1750/51. Children, born at Stonington, Connecticut: i. Hannah-3, b. 2 Apr 1688. ii. John, b. 24 Jan 1691; bapt. Preston, New London Co., CT 9 April 1710; d. Nov 1762; m. Preston, CT 15 June 1716 Mary Clark. Thomas, b. 14 Nov 1697; d. probably at Scituate, RI ca. 1777; m. at Preston, CT 22 April 1719 Jemima Harrington, d. RI 30 April 1761, perhaps the dau. of John-2 Harrington (Benjamin-1). Scituate, RI 8 Nov 1724 Josiah Harrington, perhaps the son of John-2 Harrington (Benjamin-1). Children, surname Harrington: 1. Simeon, b. 22 April 1743; d. 31 Dec 1811. 2. Nathan. 3. Silas. 4. Elizabeth. 5. Martha. 6. Mary. vii. Isaac, b. Preston, CT 14 July 1705; m. before 1727 Mary Harrington (Isaac-2, Benjamin-1), d. probably before 1744. viii. Nathan, b. 14 July 1709. 3. Samuel-3 Bennett (John-2-1) was born at Stonington, Connecticut 7 September 1694 and died at Coventry, Kent County, Rhode Island between 4 January 1766 and 16 February 1679. He married, first, circa 1714 Sarah Harrington (Isaac-2, Benjamin-1), daughter of Isaac-2 and Sarah (_____) Harrington. Samuel married, second, at Preston, Connecticut 17 Sep 1723 or 1724 Jane Clark. He married, third, at Coventry 1 April 1742 Sarah (_____) Payne, widow of Thomas Payne. Samuel Bennett and Sarah Harrington were second cousins; their paternal grandmothers were both daughters of William-1 White, Ursula (White) Bennett and Elizabeth (White) (Harrington) Pray. See William White of Boston, Massachusetts for more information. The first 11 children were born at Preston, Connecticut and the remainder at Coventry, Rhode Island.
