John Stratfold & family

The surname variation has been explained on the Home Page.

We are fortunate that there is now only one related Stratfull / Stratful line around the world. Fate was on our side as there have been others who have used the surnames at various times. In fact, there were unconnected Stratfull's before our line began in around 1850.

The fortune is that these unconnected Stratfull male lines have all died out (well we believe they have) or they stopped using the surname Stratfull. There are female connections still around back to those unconnected Stratfull's. One such link has been found - a fellow family history researcher in Australia (Helen Smith) has been looking for her Stratfull connection in Aylesbury. These have been found to be descendants of John Stratfold (take this link for this for a descendant tree of this small piece of unconnected Stratfull's)..

Stratfull / Stratful used as middle christian name

The Stratfull / Stratful name has been used as a middle name in Australia and is linked back to this piece of unconnected Stratfull's. The names in question are John Stratful Ash, Elsie Stratful Harris, Arnold Stratfull Evans and Derek Stratfull Evans. Helen Smith in Armidale, New South Wales, Australia has kindly supplied all the information which is provided under Edmund Rogers. Helen Smith has explained that Louisa Stratfull (nee Rogers) "adopted" her great grandmother Agnes Sophia Wardley, hence the Stratfull name was carried on to Arnold and then Derek. Frances Rogers, sister of Louisa used the Stratful name for her son John. Mary Rogers, another sister of Louisa, had a daughter Ada who also used it as a middle name for her daughter Elsie.

It would seem that although John and Louisa Stratfull had no children of their own, elements of their family respected them enough to carry on their name.
