Note: There were apparently two John Schnaders in this same geographic area (Lancaster County, Pennsylvania) in the same time period! "Our" John Schnader is not the "Johanne Schneder" that was born 2/1798 to "Christian and Elizabeth Schneder" that shows up in the Seltenreich Reformed Church records. This second or "other" John Schnader married a Catherine Burkholder. This second John and Catherine(!) couple are both buried in the Voganville Union Cemetary.

• John Schnader's paternal grandfather was probably (Johan) Michael Schnader or "Schnaedter"
  • Johan Michael was born on 5/9/1745. He was baptized <date unknown> at <church unknown>.
  • He died 9/2/1831 according to church records(?) and his Will.
  • All of Johan Michael's older siblings (he was the youngest of five) were baptized at the Trinity Lutheran Church in New Holland before 1745.
  • He married Eleanora Meuller on 11/25/1766 at the Seltenreich Reformed Church-"John George Wittner of Bellheim in the Palatinate pastor".
  • He passed his wordly possessions via his Will to his children Christian, Sofia, Lenora, Susanna and the children of son Michael (below).
• John Schnader's father was probably Michael Schnader or "Schnoeder" or "Schnoeter"
  • Born 7/27/1771 and baptized 9/1/1771 at the Seltenreich Reformed Church, New Holland. Most of Michael's siblings were also baptized at this church.
  • Michael married a Salome <unknown> at <church unknown> on <date unknown>.
  • According to his father Johan Michael's (above) Will-Michael had died before his father Johan Michael who died in 1831.
  • Michael and Salome had at least these children baptized:
    • Samuel baptized 3/17/1793 at the Seltenreich Reformed Church in New Holland.
    • John born/baptized, we suspect, between these two.
    • Salome baptized 7/1/1804 at the Bergstrasse Lutheran Church in Ephrata.
• John Schnader himself:
  • Was probably born/baptized <location unknown> at <church unknown> between 1790-1800.
  • He probably died (he sure disappeared!) between 1842-1850.
  • His place of death and burial location are both <unknown>.
  • He married Catherine Killian or "Kileon" on either 9/30/1823 or 11/20/1823 at Reiher's (or Royer's or Zion) Reformed Church in Brickerville, Pa. The Reverend Daniel Hertz presided.
  • Catherine Killian was:
    • Born 9/3/1802 (Parents: Jacob Killian and Susanna Beck). She was baptized on 10/3/1802 at the Salem Evagelical Lutheran Church in Lebanon.
    • She died in April, 1874 and is buried with her father Jacob at the Bergstrasse Lutheran Church Cemetary in Ephrata.
  •  The first child of John and Catherine was:
    •  A son Michael (listed as "Schnoeder") born 11/23/1824 (Bergstrasse Church Ephrata records-see below) but Michael was baptized 1/9/1826 at the above Reiher's Church in Brickerville.
  • John and Catherine had up to nine more children (again listed as "Schnoeder" in the church records) born or baptized (most baptizms noted in the Bergstrasse Lutheran Church records in Ephrata) as either posted at the LDS website (www.familysearch.org) in the1850 Earl Township census:
    • Sara born 4/2/1826 m.Elias Beck
    • Rudolph ("Rudy") born about 1826-27?-Listed in 1850 census but no other records.
    • John baptized 9/20/1829
    • Catherine baptized 5/15/1831
    • Maria baptized 9/2/1832 m.John Acker
    • Susanna born about 1834-35? m.Charles Killian
    • Rebecca baptized 7/1/1836
    • Daniel baptized 8/25/1839 m.Sarah Good (see below)
    • Isreal baptized 2/18/1843-Listed in 1850 census.
  • It thus appears they lived in the area bounded by Ephrata on the east and Brickerville on the west.
  • We are not yet sure if John owned any land/property.
  • Other importants facts pertaining to our John Schnader:
    • John Schnader is not shown as living with above family as of the 1850 (or later) census.
    • The 1850 census (see Discussion2) from Earl Township shows the following "incomplete" John Schnader family:
      • Oldest child/son Michael Schnader as "Head of Household" age 26 a farmer.
      • Mother Catherine (Killian) Schnader age 48.
      • These children: Rudy, John, Daniel, Isreal,
      • Catherine's (probably) widowed mother Susanna Killian (age 76).
      • Daughter Maria shows up living with another family later on the same page of the census.
• Daniel Schnader Son of John and Catherine born 1838/baptized 1839 (noted above):
  • Was a member of the "First Reformed Church" of Ephrata according to his 1934 obituary.
  • The Reverend Dr. Martin Schwietzer officiated at his funeral.
  • He, his wife Sarah Good and five of their ten children are buried at the Voganville Union Cemetary.
  • We do not yet know where Daniel and Sarah's children were baptized.

The current missing data that we need:

• Confirmation of John Schnader's birthdate or baptizm, his father, mother, siblings, etc.
• John Schnader's ultimate fate-When he died, where he died, where he is buried.
• ANY record of John after 1842 (the birth of son Isreal).
• Place of baptizm of Daniel and Sarah Good Schnader's children.
