Enlistment

Frederick Alfred Price enlisted in the 115th Battalion on December 21, 1915. He joined the service after an argument with his wife Leona (Catherine) Palmer. Coincidentally or not, my Grandmother would have learned that she was expecting another baby at about this time. Fred left Halifax on July 31, 1916 on the S.S. Olympic.

According to his enlistment attestation, he had spent 2 years in the 71st Militia as well as 2 years in the N.S. (American) Militia.
Physical Description

At age 30

Height: Either 5'7 1/8" tall or 5'9 1/2" according to who ever was measuring. The latter was probably correct.

Eyes: Either blue or gray, depending on who was looking at him.

Hair: Thick and dark brown.

Body build: 34" waist, but 39" if padded out with full gear.

Distinguishing Characteristics: A mole the size of a "bean" located on his body; presumably in the neck or chest area. A 3" scar under the right side of his chin that extended to the point of his chin, and a smaller scar on one ear. These scars were probably the result of working as a stone cutter.

Medical History:

As one officer put it "he has been in one hospital after another". He was admitted to hospitals, and was so ill at one point that he could not muster. He was court-martialled, and was given 7 days of kitchen duty as punishment.
