Mrs. Olive Day Smith Died Early Monday at Home of Friend

Mrs. Olive Day Smith died at 1 o’clock Monday morning at the home of Mrs. Lucretia Ball, a friend who resides on the Rock Island Road.  She was 76 years of age.  Mrs. Smith had been in poor health for some time, but the end came as a shock as it was not expected so suddenly.  She left her home in West Main Street Sunday to visit her friend.

Mrs. Smith was the wife of George W. Smith of 197 West Main street, whom she married thirty years ago.  All of their married life had been spent in Gouverneur.  Mrs. Smith was born April 27, 1849, in the town of Macomb, a daughter of David A. and Lucinda Washburn Day.

One brother, Silas W. Day, of Ogdensburg is the only survivor except for the husband.

Funeral services will be held at the home of Mrs. Ball on the Rock Island Road this afternoon at 3:00 o’clock with Rev. W. J. McCullough, pastor of the Gouverneur Baptist Church officiating.  Interment will be made in Riverside Cemetery.
