The 1850 N .Y .census shows a Charlotte Stillson residing in Brighton, Montgomery County , N .Y .This is not Charlotte Foster , wife of Moses, who is shown in the N .Y .census in 1850 in Meredith.

The 1850 census reveals a Charlott Stilson living in Nunda, Livingston County , N .Y .Apparently the wife or daughter of Charles Stilson living in Nunda.

CHESTER STILSON
Shown in the 1880 soundex census for N.Y. Aged 34 years (b. about 1846), residing in Livingston County, Mt. Morris Township with wife Mary E. aged 27 (b. about 1853) in N.Y. and son Elmer 3 years.

COMFORT STILLSON
The 1790 census index for Bennington County , town of Sandgate, VT shows Comfort Stillson and her household of one male age 16 years and up and three females. In 1800 in the same town the census shows Comfort Stillson and household which includes one male age 16- 26 years, 1 male 45 years or older, one female age 26- 45 years (possibly this is Comfort) and one female 45 years or older. Could it be her parents have moved in with her? She does not appear in the 1810, 1820, 1830 or 1840 census for VT. Also in the 1790 census for 1790 and 1800 are Luther Stillson and Abel Stillson, both in this unplaced chapter .

CORA EUPHANA STILSON
Born October 14, 1876 in Candor, Tioga, NY, m. George William Ketchum. See under Lyman Stilson in this unplaced Stilson chapter for additional information on this family.

CURTIS STILSON
The 1830 N .Y .census shows a Curtis Stilson in Villenoy, Chautauqua County , N .Y .There are no other Stilsons listed in that location. (Speculations: Curtis, could be the son of Daniel of Woodbury -see in this section. Also could be a connection to the family line is that David (b. 1791), son of Josiah Stilson m. a Maria Curtis. It could be that they had a son and named him after her family surname.) The family was apparently from CT. and relocated about 1815 to Chautauqua County, N.Y. Curtis and wife Abigail had a son Samuel Talbert Stilson. See Samuel Talbert. The 1840 census shows a Curtice Stilson in Villenoy, Chautauqua County , N .Y .There is a Hannah Stilson, listed as the sister to S .T .Stilson (possibly Samuel Talbert Stilson) who married Corrin Doane of Boston who removed to Earl, La Salle, Co., IL. Samuel Talbert also relocated to minois. The History of LaSalle County tells that Corrin Doane had two sons Hazen who married and lived in Earl and Samuel J. who died in the army. It does not make clear if these sons are the offspring of Corrin Doane and Hannah Stilson, or his first wife who was Harriet Johnson.

CYNTHIA STILLSON
Ohio Marriages, reports that a Cynthia Stillson m. Zedekiah (possibly Jedekiah) Crandol by James M. Booth, J .P ., Washington Co., Ohio on October 19, 1819.

CYRUS STILSON/CYRUS STILLSON
Cyrus Stillson is in Rootstown, Portage County , Ohio in the 1850 census employed as a cooper (a barrel or caskmaker), wife

Lucretia aged 20 years b. in Ohio. Son Orange M. Stillson aged one year. Also in Rootstown are Charles M. Stillson aged 27 and Philo Stillson aged 62 years. It is speculation that Philo Stillson is the father of both Charles M. and Cyrus Stillson. See Philo Stillson, shown in the genealogy in the fifth generation. He and his wife could easily have had two children born between 1823 and 1825. Cyrus W. Stilson is shown in Soundex BOOO S342 that he m. June 1, 1848 to Lucretia Bow in Mahoning County, Ohio. Charles M. Stilson was m. on the same date, June 1, 1848 to Lucy Bow. It might be that two brothers wed two sisters.

The 1850 Maine Census lists D.E. as a resident of Waterville, Kennebec, Maine. Also listed in Waterville are Betsey Stilson. Perhaps related to the Ager Stilson family. See unplaced Stilsons in this chapter .

A D.W. Stillson is shown in 1850 as a resident of Candor, Tioga County, New York.

DANIEL "OF WOODBURY" STILSON
Daniel Stilson "ofWoodbury" Conn., Litchfield Co., deeds land to Jabez Bacon of Woodbury in West Sprain district, November 11, 1774, Vo122, page 27 Woodbury Land Records. Daniel is shown as being deceased before November 1817. He married before 1793 to Hannah Warner of Connecticut. Daniel Stilson is noted in the following land deed records: Daniel Stilson of Woodbury deeds land to Samuel Peet of Woodbury , "North Purchase" December 6, 1771 --Vol. 19, page 104. Daniel Stilson of Woodbury receives land from Dan Hine, North Purchase, March 12, 1771, Vol. 19, 103. Daniel Stilson of Woodbury receives land from Peter Walker ,; West Sprain, March 6, 1772. Recorded on December 3, 1819. The preceding seems to indicate that Daniel "of Woodbury" could have children in addition to Orrin. Possibly sons Daniel Stilson (Jr.), Curtis Stilson, a daughter Hannah who married John Wart and perhaps a daughter who married Daniel Monroe and another who married Josiah Shed.

Daniel of Woodbury married Hannah Warner and had children:

The 1840 census lists an Israel Stilson in "MGM" County .Abbreviation for Montgomery County .The 1850 census lists an Israel Stilson in Charleston, MGM County , New York. The records were copied from bibles found in the Salvation Army salesroom.

(source: Congregational Church Records and Lyman Stillson Civil War Record.) The Fluno history lists Lyman the son of Hiram Stillson and Eliza. David S. Stilson m. Hannah E. Hubbard on April 29, 1839 in Derby, New Haven, CT. Source: IGI

David Stilson is listed in 1840 census, living in Newtown, Fairfield County, CT.

The 1840 census records for New York show a David Stilson living in Augusta, Oneida County, New York. Also reported in the same town is a Philo Stilson.

The 1850 census records for New York show four David Stilsons: The first residing in Meredith, Delaware County, New York. He is shown to be 40 years of age, which puts his birth at about 1810 and he is recorded as a farmer. Most interesting is the fact that he reports his birth in Ireland. He must have been some relation and headed to Meredith where other Stilsons were living. No mention of any family. The second in Augusta, Oneida County , New York. The third in North "Ca" Westchester County , New York. There is also a Daniel Stilson listed in the same town. The fourth is reported in Scholarie, Schenectady, New York.

DAVID STILSON
(Could he be the son of James Brisco?)
David was b. July 23, 1797 and d. at or near Armonk on September 25, 1864. He m. on June 26, 1819 to Debra Carpenter Merritt b. at North Castle on April 21, 1798 and d. at Armonk on August 2, 1866. She was the daughter of Caleb Merritt and Elizabeth (Carpenter) Merritt. He was a tailor residing on High Street and is buried in St. Stephens Cemetery .The 1850 census does not list a Reuben b. in 1833 and John E. b. in 1836. However, other children living with him include James, Margaret, and Alonzo.

Information from Norman Davis of Newburgh, NY, lists the following descendants of Reuben Stilson and wife Hannah which is combined with 1880 census records. Norman Davis writes that the Merritt clan is numerous with concentrations in and around Stamford, CT and Rye, N.Y., about a half hour drive from Northcastle.

In the 1850 census extracts for David Stilson in Northcastle and the 1820 extract for David we learned the following. In the 1850 census, David is shown as "Stitson," his occupation is tailor, his birthdate was 1797. Living with him is Deborah age 52. Residing with the family is James age 21, a shoemaker. Margaret age 18, Alonzo age II and Reuben Merrett (the father of Deborah) age 73, birth year 1777. Also in the home is Frances Stilson, age 23. The 1820 census shows a David Stetson in Westchester Co., NY the town of Northcastle and lists males in the household as one under age 10 years, one 10-16 years, one 16-18 years, one 26-45 years and one 45 years and older. Females in the home include one age 19-16 years, one aged 26-45 and one 45 years and older. Norman notes that David had a daughter under age 10 in this census. The 1850 census shows his oldest child still with him as born in 1827. It might be that Daniel M. Stetson shown in the 1850 census records as born in 1825 and m. to Esther age 25 years with son Melvin age 6 months, might be the oldest child of David and Deborah. The above extracts from census information was sorted out with the following new, or rather "old" information on this line was obtained by Ken Stilson of Danbury .The information was found in the Stilson Bible which he located at the Hartford Library .It was difficult to transcribe, but it shows nine children born to David and Debra. Mary Elizabeth, Phebe, Daniel M., Frances A., James Brisco, Margaret A., Reubin Merritt, John E. and Alonzo all lived to adulthood and all but Alonzo married. The "?" marks indicate where the text is unclear .

James Brisco b. 1829, d. February 27, 1863. (Note: seems strange that it was the same date as his sister Frances). He married Sarah

Margaret A. b. October 4, 1831, d. February 1, 1871. She m. John Freiland.

Reuben Merritt Stilson b. December 11, 1833, d. January 1885. m. I) Hannah E. Stockwell b. May 9, 1840 and d. April 26, 1908. Reuben, wife and some children buried in Greenwood-Union Cemetery in Rye, N.Y. Mary E. aged 18, Almo 15, William 14, George H. 12, Reuban M. 11, Lizzie 9, Fann V. (son) 7, Charles F. 4 years and Josephine 1. Note: It has not been confirmed that Reuban is the son of David and Deborah Merritt Stilson, however, given the date of his birth and his middle name, it is assumed to be accurate.
