AMOS CLINTON STILLSON, born October 20, 1850, on Stilson Hill, Warren Co., PA, son of William Edward and Deborah (Page) Stilson, married in 1873, Stella May Truesdell, born April 20, 1857, daughter of Rev. Charles and Betsy (Baker) Truesdell. He attended the academy at Sugar Grove. When he moved from Stilson Hill, he changed the spelling of his name to STILLSON and descendants in his line have since that time used the two LL's. He was a farmer in Elgin from 1873-87. Stella May (Truesdell) Stillson died August 12, 1887, and Amos Clinton moved to Burgettstown, PA, 1887 and with his father-in-law Rev. Truesdell and devoted his entire time to oil production. Thomas Printing Co., Jamestown, NY, 1896/ A copy might still be residing at the Western Reserve Historical Library, Cleveland, Ohio and an account of which is in the William Charles Stillson Notes on STilson Genealogy. In the spring of 1889, he married Cora Disbrow, of Elgin, PA, b. April 11, 1865, d. December 4, 1892. Cora had been his wife's dearest friend. Cora was the daughter of William and Belle Disbrow of Elgin, PA. Her death was the result of a severe burn while living in Oakdale, Pennsylvania. Burial is at the Elgin Cemetery, Elgin, PA. In the summer of 1895, Amos Clinton married Rebecca Elizabeth Buxton, of Eldersville, PA, b. in Jefferson Twp, Washington Co., PA, daughter of Davis and Hannah Buston. She had been a teacher in the public schools of Midway, PA. She was the daughter of Davis and Hannah Buxton. She d. 1936 at age 81. His oilinterests took him to Western Ohio where he lived at Cygnetm (spelling?) Beardstown and at Findlay, Ohio, he resided 10 years. In 1910 he moved to Youngstown, Ohio, where he died January 10, 1914 of paralytic stroke. He is buried at Elgin Cemetery, Elgin, PA. From William Charles Stillson's notes: "During his entire lifetime he was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and wherever he lived was active in church work. At Elgin, PA., he was superintendent of the Sunday School. He was interested in music, had an excellent voice and was often a choir leader. He lived a consistent Christian life and, at the time of his death, was an official of Epworth M.E. Church, Youngstown, Ohio. He attended the Academy at Sugar Grove, PA., and throughout his entire lifetime held a keen interst in educational matters." His widow, Rebecca Stillson, moved to her former home and birthplace at Eldersville where she resided until her death December 8, 1936 in her 81st year. She is buried at Eldersville in the family cemetery beside her mother. EDWARD STILSON, born July 21, 1839 in Franklin, NY, was son of Ansyl Ford and Susan (Dewey) Stilson, d. October 23, 1868 at Cortland, NY. He married September 18, 1861, Mary C. Wickwire, Born February 13, 1841, died October 11, 1900. Edward was a tinsmith by trade and a hardware merchant in Franklin. Mary Wickwire was the daughter of Raymond Wickwire and Elmira (Greenman) Wickwire. His ancestry is John Wickwire 1;Christopher Wickwire 2; Ichabod Wickwire 3; Oliver Wickwire 4;Daniel Wickwire 5;Raymond Wickwire 6.) Additional information was researched by Dan Touse.) 1.Arthur Ford, "son od Edward Stilson was born at Franklin, delaware County, N.Y. b. December 9, 1864, (d. March 13, 1937 in Cortland, N.Y.) He attended the public schools, the state Normal School and Eastman's Business College at Poughkeepsie. He is superintendent of the plant of Wickwire Brothers, and has worked for this concern since he graduated from school. He has been active in public affairs. He was a member of the board of education for nine years, president for six years, and president of the incorporated village. Under his administration the main street was paved, and other public improvements carried on. He is a director of the Second National Bank of Cortland, N.Y. In religion he is a Presbyterian, and a trustee of the church. In politics he is a Republican. He married, January 22, 1890, Carried Louise, daughter of Herny F. and Caroline (Putnam) Benton, of Cortland; she uses for her name, Louisa B. Children: Raymond Putnam, b. October 15, 1892, d. December 22, 1893 and Chester Benton, b. January 16, 1896." See Generation VIII. 2."Edward, son of Edward Stilson, was born in Cortland, N.Y. March 9, 1867. He was educated in the public schools of his native town, and at the State Normal School at Cortland. He has been employed all his active life in the plant of Wickwire Brothers, and is at present treasurer of the corporation. In religion he is a Presbyterian, and in Politics a Republican. He married, March 4, 1891, Martha, born in Moravia, New York, June 12, 1871, daughter of Frank W. and Georgia (Petre) Collins. Children, born at Cortland: Georgia Jennette, July 22, 1892, Mary Wickwire, b. July 15, 1894; Laura Ford, b. November 15, 1895 and Edward, b. November 18, 1899" See Generation VIII. ARTHUR CLARK STILSON, born February 2, 1845, son of Ansyl Ford and second wife, Lucia (Ford) Stilson, married September 3, 1867, Addie Russell Seaton. From information contained in a letter of his second cousin, Mrs. Turril (Mary Stilson, daughter of Rev. Lyman Stilson the missionary to Burma) this Arthur Clark Stilson became a minister and at one time was assistant pastor at the West Adams and Figueroa St., St. John's Episcopal Church, at Lost Angeles, California. GEORGE STILSON, born February 15, 1843, at West Meredith, N.Y. son of John and Christina (Fisher) Stilson, died November 20/22, 1922. Buried at Franklin, Delaware Co., N.Y., married Janauary 7, 1865, Grace Abigail Kneeland, born March 22, 1922. Buried at Franklin, Delaware Co., N.Y., married January 7, 1865, Grace Abigail Kneeland, born March 22, 1844, at Franklin, N.Y. Grace was the daughter of Benjamin Kneeland and Minerva Naomi (Hine) Kneeland. The family bible lists that George Stilson m. Jeanett Goodrich on June 15, 1913. Children: 1. Libbie Minerva, b. June 18, 1866 2. John Benjamine, b. May 31, 1872, d. November 2, 1923. He married September 15, 1896, Jane S. Weyant. They had one daughter. STILSON - SEVENTH GENERATION(Vincent 1;Moses 2;Moses 3;Nathan 4;Moses 5;Lucien 6;PorterH. 7) VII. PORTER HALE STILSON, son of Lucien and Eliza (Van Akin) Stilson, was born at West Meredith, N.Y., November 11, 1847, and died at Franklin, N.Y. on September 15, 1918. (Granddaughter Ruth recalls he may have died from measles.) He is buried at Treadwell, N.Y. Porter married February 17, 1869 to Mary L. Burdick. He settled on a farm near Meredith. Porter STilson is shown in 1880 living Meredith, Delaware Co., N.Y. with wife Mary aged 29 years and children Irving, Winfield, Jerome, Edith and Merrit. His brother Irving, aged 37 years, is residing with him. Mary L. burdick's death is recorded in the bible of William Porter Stilson as April 30, 1929. Children: 1. Irving B., b. Dec. 4, 1871, m. Dec. 7, 1894, Bertha ____.Daughter Violet, may have been slightly retarded and possibly other children. Irving had a wooden leg which resulted from an accident. Nick recalls that his uncle Irv ran a carriage shop. To do repairs on buggies he made a blow torch using a 20 gallon metal milk cooler. He was using the blow torch was knocked down and set his leg on fire. Nick recalls that Irv was quite and inventor and once even made a car out of a buggy. 2. Windield, b. May 29, 1873, in Meredith, m. Dec. 18, 1895, Bertha Bailey in Franklin on December 19, 1895. Bertha d. September 1943. They lived for many years in Franklin on a Treadwell Farm and then moved to Oneonta. He d. at home August 7, 1953 at the home of his son. Children: Ernest W. Stilson, Mrs. John R. Luck of Miami Florida. 3.Jerome, b. June 19, 1875, d. April 30, 1889 4. Edith, b. October 6, 1876, m. January 1, 1895, Fred Stockman, a farmer, Children Winfield and Mina, lived in Treadwell, New York. Edith was still living in 1953. 5. Merrit, (boy) b. August 27, 1878 6.Kathereing "Katie", b. May 12, 1880, m. September 22, 1897, Ellis Croneor. "Children Ellis, Jr., Hazel, Gertrude and Doris. Had a General Store in Beerston, NY and uncle Ellis made booze in the cellar." 7. Elizabeth "Lizzie", b. October 15, 1882, m. Daniel Warren, farmer, Meridale, N.Y. Had children Floyd and Ralph. A newspaper article carried the wedding announcement of her daughter Ella. Daniel had episodes of dementia. Lizzie became the guardian of her brother George's children when his wife, Eva died. 8. George B., b. January 29, 1885, d. May 1949. George m. around 1910 to Eva Oles Selleck. Eva d. in 1923 of Ptomaine poisoning. George was a creamery worker at Meridale Farms. After the death of Eva, the children's aunt Elizabeth became their guardian. George was found dead near the home of his brother William. A coroners investigation showed that George died of head injuries. The state police speculated that he lost his footing and fell down a step embankment. An investigation declared that it was an accidental death.
Marjorie Edith, b. March 30, 1912, m. in 1930 to Earl Tobey. Had children Dix Allison, Alan, Garth, Brian Earl and Douglas. Ferris Delos b. about 1914, d. at age 4 of scarlet fever and pneumonia Ruth reports that her father George never used his middle name, but speculates it might have been B. for Burdick, his mother's maiden name. She adds that she has fond memories of all her aunts and spent lot of time at their homes. She also recalls the yearly family reunions at the old homestead inor near Treadwell, N.Y. When her grandmother, Mary Burdic died, her obituary claimed 56 grandchildren. Ruth lives in Ormond Beach, Florida. 9.Norma, b. July 19, 1886, m. February 21, 1906 to James Simmons, Franklin, NY. Norma's mother Mary Burdick lived with the family into her 70's Lester James Simmons, b. March 16, 1907, d. April 21, 1967, . Frances Cooley had son Edwin. 10.Annie (Anna) Viola, b. July 14, 1888, m. Lee Lent, a creamery worker, in Walton, N.Y., lived at Treadwell, N.Y. and later Sherburne, N.Y. They had chldren Harry and marguerite who were born 18 years apart. Anna was still living in 1953 when her brother Winfield died. 11. Grace, b. October 17, 1890 m. William Barlow, Brighamton, M.Y. Children Carroll (boy), Wilma, Fernald, and Elsa Mae. 12.William Porter, b. January 16, 1892, m. 1)Mary McCall died at the birth of her daughter Hazel. 2)Sarah Ellen Hoyt was the daughter of William C. and Harriet (Gransbury) Hoyt who were m. June 16, 1886. William Porter was farmer and lived at Walton, NY and Otego, NY. Died of cerebral brain hemorrhage in about Spring 1957 while he was in the field shoeing horses. Children of William and Mary: Juanita b. March 31, 1917 m. Merle Nary living in Hawthoren, CA. Sons: Ronald and Roger. Children of William and Sarah: Charlotte Linnie Stilson b. December 7, 1921, d. April 21, 1981 m. December 24, 1939 to Charles A. Cargill b. June 14, 1914, d. December 25, 1978 Norma Jean Cargill b. December 41, 1940. She is a major in Rita, b.
