Genealogy Discussion With Charles

Stiehl

According to Charles, his great grandfather Dietrick Stiehl had two brothers, Anthony and Ernst, a sister, Carrie, a half brother, George Brown,  and either another brother or cousin named William Stiehl.  They all came to America and settled in Ohio.

Dietric2.gif (48882 bytes)Margst2.GIF (180078 bytes)Dietrick Stiehl was a barrel maker from  Hesse Cassel, Nassau, Germany, and was believed toStkids2.GIF (187258 bytes) have been born abt. 1825.  He immigrated to America about 1855 and was naturalized 15 Oct 1860.  He married Margaret Geir or Geyer about 1870 in Hamilton, Ohio, USA.  They lived, loved, raised their ten children, and died there.  (Photos at left:  Dietrick Stiehl and Margaret Geir or Geyer.)  (Photo at right: Karl, Carrie, and either Dietrick or Anthony "Tony" Stiehl.)

They had three sons and one daughter.  Carl Ernest Stiehl was born 9 May 1889.  His brothers wanted Carl to have aCarlst2.JPG (23833 bytes) proper education.  They worked in the factories and continued to support their mother and Carl even after Dietrick's death.  Carl obtained his degree in Engineering and was soon collecting many patents for his clever and timely inventions.   He moved to Wisconsin some time before 1918 at which time he married Marjorie Blanche Simon, daughter of Albert Simon of Lawler, Iowa, USA.   (Photo at right: Marjorie Blanche Simon and Carl Stiehl.)

Carl and Marjorie had three children:  Charles who is the subject of this website, John who lives in Brussels, and Annie who died in 1993.

Clapham

Thomas Clapham married Sarah Kay.  Their son, John, was born 17 Aug 1828 in Baine, West Riding, Yorkshire, England.  He married Ann Mitchell also of Yorkshire, England, 27 Feb 1854.  They had a daughter, Sarah Anna Clapham, in 1869.  The family immigrated to America and Sarah married Albert Simon 9 Dec 1886 in Utica Township, Chicasaw, Iowa.  Their daughter Marjorie Blanche Simon married Carl Ernest Stiehl.
