Charles & Pauline Goldman's Children

This family was the only one found from the memories of Pauline Schwartz and then authenticated with documents.  Pauline had a claim for her husband's social security, so it was not a SS-5 exactly.  On 5 June 1972, Pauline Novick Goldman was living at 20 5th Avenue, New York, NY 10007.  Her birthdate was listed and birthplace as Philadelphia, Pennsylvania!  A surprise, but would explain why the family was not found in Ellis Island.  Her parents were listed as Fannie August and Samuel Novick--jackpot!  They were also found in the 1920 census at Lafayette Avenue in Brooklyn, ED 331, p. 15A.  Charles was a lawyer and both were listed as born in Pennsylvania.  One son, Harold P who was 5/12.  I found a Harold P. who died in East Meadow, Nassau, NY.  Another Goldman was there who COULD be a brother.  Suspicious females in East Meadow are Martha (2 Jun 1894-Dec 1979) and Sadie (7 Jul 1907-Mar 1974).

  • Harold P. Goldman:  born probably 7 November 1919 Brooklyn, Kings, New York; and died 16 May 1998 East Meadow, Nassau, New York.
  • William Goldman:  possibly a son, born probably 24 Oct 1920 Brooklyn, Kings, New York; and died Oct 1984 East Meadow, Nassau, New York.

  • Grandpa & Grandma Goldman's Children

  • Charles Goldman:  born 18 Nov 1889 in Pennsylvania.

  • Samuel & Fannie Novick's Children

The 1900 census had this family living at 332 W 49th Street, Manhattan, New York, New York.  Birth months and years are given as said there, but they were all listed as born in New York, except for Samuel and Fannie (and sister, Rosie) who were listed as born in Germany!  If Samuel and Fannie were married in 1888, Philip certainly could have been born in Poland.

  • Philip Novick:  born January 1889 in Bialystok or Philadelphia or Manhattan.
  • Pauline Novick:  born 2 March 1895 in Philadelphia or Manhattan.
  • Nathan Novick:  born April 1896 in Philadelphia or Manhattan, married Pauline and was living at 113 W. 57th Street in Manhattan in 1933 as a music teacher.  Nathan was a violinist and had an article with photo in the NY Times.
  • Abraham Novick:  born February 1898 in Philadelphia or Manhattan.

  • Josel & Grandma Nowik's Children

In New York City, two "unknown" Novicks are living with Harry and Minnie Novick (Fannie's brother) in 1933:  George a salesman and William a clerk.  I would imagine they would descend from this family.

  • Orko Nowik:  born probably in Bialystok, Podlaskie, Poland, married Estera Narewska (daughter of Chaim) in 1881 in Bialystok.
  • Szmujlo Nowik:  born about 1868 probably in Bialystok, Podlaskie, Poland.

  • Szmerel & Pauline Awgustowski's Children

  • Fejga Golda "Fannie" Awgustowska:  born about January 1871 probably in Bialystok, Podlaskie, Poland.
  • Emma Awgustowska:  born about 1874 probably in Bialystok, Podlaskie, Poland; and married Ezra Rosenfeld and they had three children:  Harry (died of tuberculosis as a young adult), Pauline, and Jeannette.
  • Liz Awgustowska:  born about 1877 probably in Bialystok, Podlaskie, Poland; and married Harry Pinkowitz and had four children:  Samuel, Murray, Pauline (born about 1916), and Irving.
  • Harry Awgustowski Novick:  born about 1884 probably in Bialystok, Podlaskie, Poland; and married Minnie Goldstein and had three sons:  Sam (had no children), Murray (14 Jul 1896 - Sep 1982), and Rueben "Ruby" (7 Feb 1917 - 23 Feb 1994).  Harry died 17 January 1948 and is buried in the Bialystok section of a Bronx cemetary.
  • Rose Awgustowska:  born about March 1884 probably in Bialystok, Podlaskie, Poland; and married Saml Schwartz and had a daughter Pauline.
