NOTES: Roger GOETZ, "Double Cousins by the Dozens", 1982, "Friedrich STEINKE (occassionally called Gottfired), his wife and 3 children left Germany in 1861 by sailing vessel.  Landing after a voyage of 7 weeks, they traveled to LaCrosse, WI, where he was employed in a brickyard.  The following year, G. Albert was born.  Abt 1864, they moved to Canton Twp, Buffalo County, WI, where Friedrich had gained 80 acres of government land to which he later added 80 acres of railway land and finally 40 acres more, making a total of 200 acres.  His original holding was wild;he even had to clear a passage into his property for his ox team, wagon, 2 cows, and 2 calves.  Friedrich STEINKE was on of the pioneer farmers of the area." p. 605.  ( gr-gr-grandfather of Nancy ECONOMOU, azathoth@telerama.com)
