She had three brothers and two sisters. Her parents were from Scotland and migrated to Canada and later to Minnesota and in 1861 the family all moved to Colorado where they homesteaded just outside of Denver. Elizabeth married Jacob Cowen on June 25, 1871 and it looks as if they moved to a little town called Powderhorn, Colorado. There must have been an accident( so far I have not been able to prove this) but Jacob Cowen died just about a month later on Aug. 1, 1871. Elizabeth remained in Powerhorn and later met and married Enos Throop Hotchkiss in 1878. Together they had six children Fred S. born 10/1/1878, Addie born 1880, Enos Clair born March 1882, Gertrude born, March 1884, Adair born Sept. 1887 and Leon born Sept. 1889. Elizabeth died in 1904 and Enos died Jan 20, 1900 in Hotchkiss, Colorado. I remember Adair when I was a child growing up in Grand Junction, Colorado, he was a lawyer and a judge there. There is a small museum in Hotchkiss, Colorado, that I believe is devoted to the Hotchkiss family. The last time I was there it was closed. It is only open in the summer as Hotchkiss is a very small town off the beaten path. Elizabeth's brother John Douglas McIntyre was my Great Grandfather. I have a newspaper clipping of Alfred and Nina Hotchkiss. It tells about the search for 2 1/2 year old Alfred who mysteriously disappeared from his home on Oct 1, near Ridgeway , Colorado. I have not been able to find whose children these are, what year this happened or if the child was found. It was stuck in my Grandmothers old Bible. I have several stories taken out of books, that were given to me by an elderly Aunt, that tell quite a bit about the Hotchkiss Family here in Colorado. I live just outside of Denver, Colorado, so I plan another trip to Hotchkiss this summer when the museum is open and hopefully will be able to find out more about the family.
