Deane, Abigail (~1764 - 1824)
b. Abt 1764 in of Upton,Worcester,MA
d. 26 Nov 1824 in Upton,Worcester,MA
!Source: "Vital Records of Upton, Massachusetts to the End of the Year 1849", pp. 118, 172. Also identifies grandchild as Abigail Dean (e?) Nelson, d. of son Levi.

!Source: "Descendants of Job Tyler" by W. I. Tyler Brigham, vol. I, p. 102. Identifies her as Abigail Dean vice Deane lending possible connection to Dedham MA Deans.

!Family: I have placed her as the daughter or Dr. Josiah Deane/Dean of Upton and Abigail Richards of Dedham for the following reasons: (1) None of the births of their children are recorded in the town records of Upton, Dedham, Grafton, Mendon, Norton, Northbridge, Taunton, Uxbridge, Hopkinton, Milford, or Westborough MA. Although there are many more towns which could be checked, these are the towns associated with the two respective families. I must, however, check Rowley again to be sure. (2) Marriage of Josiah and Abigail: intentions posted in Upton, performed in Dedham. (3) Deaths of Josiah, Abigail, and at least one of their children are recorded in Upton. (4) Abigail Richards' given name; Abigail Deane Nelson was probably the oldest child. (5) The Taunton branch of the Deane/Dean family tends to use the "e" whereas the Dedham branch does not. This is a matter of signatures, not the whim of the recording clerk, although the clerks have confused the issue. I will be consistent in the use of the "e" in following the Deane family.

d. 1850 in Freeport,ME

father: Dillingham, Edward(1724 - 1812)
mother: Doty, Marcy(1732 - 1812)
!BIO: Cornelius Dillingham, born Hanover, Mass. about 1776; died probably at Freeport, Maine after 1850; married first 15 December 1796, Desire Rose, born at Hanover, Mass.; married second Rhoda (____), born Maine, about 1800. Cornelius, according to family tradition, was the youngest son of Edward and Marcy (Doty) Dillingham. In 1796 he married Desire Rose of Freeport, and a native of Hanover, Mass. On 26 September 1798, Cornelius was commissioned quarter master of a battalion of artillery in the 2nd Brigade 6th Division, Mass. militia. Later, 6 August 1804, he was captain. Cornelius bought land in Freeport, Maine in 1799 from his brother, Samuel. His occupation was "trader" and "cabinet maker." He was apparently the only member of his family who was not a blacksmith. He was selectman of Freeport for eight years between 1806-1824. He was collector and constable in 1815, and justice of the peace as late as 1832. Although Freeport records contain only the name of Desire (Rose) who was contemporary in age, as the wife of Cornelius, the 1850 census lists Rhoda Dillingham, age 50, the only female in his household. Her name follows Cornelius' - the usual space used by enumerators for the wife. Cornelius' date of death has not been established. Children of Cornelius and Desire (Rose) Dillingham, all born in Freeport, Maine: i Mary Rogers, born 10 May 1799; married Capt. George Bacon of Freeport, as second wife. He married first, her cousin Marcy Dillingham, daughter of Samuel. ii Charles, born 6 October 1801; no further record found to date. iii Edward Rose, born 22 May 1803; died 2 October 1828; buried in Freeport, Maine. iv Eliza, born 10 April 1805; no further record found to date. v George, born 3 July 1811; died 12 September 1812. vi Martha Coffin, born 13 December 1813; died at Boston, Mass. 6 March 1880; unmarried. From the Dillingham Family Exchange Bulletin Vol IV 1984.

Dillingham, Cornelius (1792 - 1879)
b. 29 Apr 1792 in Freeport,ME
d. 2 Apr 1879 in Amelia,Clermont,OH

father: Dillingham, Melatiah(1762 - 1833)
mother: Dennison, Joanna(*1763 - )
!BIO: Cornelius Dillingham, born at Freeport, Maine, 29 April 1892; died near Amelia, Clermont County, Ohio, 2 April 1879; married Elizabeth French Pompilly, born at Turner, Maine, 16 October 1795; died at Amelia,Ohio, 6 January 1870. Cornelius, oldest son of Melatiah Dillingham and his first wife Joanna (Dennison) Dillingham, grew up in Freeport, Cumberland County, Maine. He served in the War of 1812 as a private in Capt. Richmond's artillery company, Col. Ryerson's regiment of the Massachusetts Militia, 25 September to 7 November 1815, at Portland, Maine. This company was enlisted at Turner, Maine, where Cornelius's wife Elizabeth Pompilly was born. With a group of other Maine people including some of his wife's family, Cornelius and Elizabeth headed west, the exact date of removal unknown. Cornelius was of record in Wilton, Maine in 1817, but was not in the 1820 census as head of family in either Maine or Ohio. He was enumerated in the 1830 and 1840 census of Clermont County, Ohio with wife and two children. By 1850, both children were married and his son George and family were living next door. His daughter and her young so were members of Cornelius and Elizabeth's household. In 1860, George was deceased and his three sons were living with Cornelius. Elizabeth died in January 1870, and Cornelius at age seventy-eight, was enumerated in the 1870 census of Clermont County, June 6. His daughter, her husband and two children, and his grandson Frank Dillingham, were members of his household. Cornelius was a prosperous farmer. His real estate value in 1870 was $8000, and personal property, $3000. Cornelius died 2 April 1879. Children of Cornelius and Elizabeth F. (Pompilly) Dillingham: i George Sumner, born 1821, in Maine according to the genealogy of the New England Dillingham family. but Ohio as reported in the 1850 census; died near Amelia, Clermont County, Ohio between 1850 and 1860; married Hannah Butler in 1843. ii Celia Pompilly born in Ohio, 1 August 1823; died at Owensville, Ohio, 10 August 1906; married 12 January 1842, Isaac L. Godfrey, born Ohio about 1817. He was a cabinetmaker. Two children, born in Ohio: Franklin H. born about 1848. Minney born about 1853. From Volume VIII of the Dillingham Family Exchange Bulletin

Dillingham, Edward (1724 - 1812)
b. 1724 in Scituate?,MA
d. 15 Mar 1812 in Freeport,ME
!BIO: Edward Dillingham, born probably Scituate, Mass. about 1724; died Freeport, Maine, 15 March 1812; married 4 August 1751, Marcy Doty, "of Scituate"; died Freeport, Maine, 4 April 1812; probably daughter of Samuel and Mary (Cobb) Doty or Doten. Edward was probably the oldest son of Melatiah and Mary (Curtis) Dillingham, although no record of his birth has been found, The earliest record is of his marriage in 1751 to Marcy Doty. The history of Hanover, Mass. by Barry, states, "Melatiah and Edward Dillingham lived in Hanover in 1754 and were shipbuilders." They were also listed among householders in 1755. Land sales in 1784 and 1788 in Hanover by Joshua, half-brother of Edward, refer to the dwelling, "where Edward Dillingham formerly lived." In 1783 records of the Friends' Society, Pembroke Monthly Meeting, contain the report of Edward Dillingham's removal to the Falmouth, Maine Monthly Meeting. Edward and Marcy appear to have been members of the household of their son, Samuel in the first federal census, 1790, Freeport, Maine. Edward and Samuel were both blacksmiths and family tradition says that they contracted with the stage line to shoe the stage horses when they stopped in Freeport on the post road. d. 4 Jun 1832 in Freeport,ME

father: Dillingham, Edward(1724 - 1812)

!BIO: Samuel Dillingham, born at Hanover, Mass. 21 October 1751; died Freeport, Maine, 4 June 1832; married 20 March 1787, Deborah Rose, born Hanover, Mass. August 1762; died Freeport, Maine, 12 May 1823; daughter of Thomas and Rhoda (Rogers) Rose. Samuel, oldest child of Edward and Marcy (Doty) Dillingham, was born and grew up in Hanover, Mass. He was a blacksmith, as were his father and brothers. Prior to the family's removal to Maine, in 1782, Samuel purchased 22 acres of land in North Yarmouth, Maine (part of which later became Freeport), from Thomas Rose, also of Hanover. Records of the Friends' Society, Pembroke Mass. Monthly Meeting, contain the report of Samuel's father Edward's removal to the Falmouth, Maine Monthly Meeting in 1783. It is not clear whether Samuel accompanied his father and family to Maine, or migrated a few years later, however, he was married in 1787 to Deborah, daughter of Thomas Rose, probably in Freeport, Maine. All of Samuel's children, from 1789, were born in Freeport. Samuel Dillingham was enumerated as head of family in Freeport, Maine, in the first U.S. census, 1790, with household comprised of 3 males aged 16 or over, 1 male under 16, and 4 females. His parents and others of his family appear to have been living with him, as he and Deborah had only one child at that time. Family tradition relates that Samuel and his father had a contract with the stage line to shoe the stage horses when they stopped in Freeport on the post road. Between 1798 and 1825, Samuel sold several parcels of land in Freeport to his sons, Joseph and Samuel, Jr., and to his nephews, Cornelius and Sewell Dillingham. Deborah Dillingham died in Freeport, 12 May 1823. Samuel died in Freeport, 4 June 1832. Children of Samuel and Deborah (Rose) Dillingham, all born in Freeport, Maine: i Samuel Doty, born 5 or 15 February 1789; died at Freeport, Maine, 4 April 1841; married 22 December 1811, Patience Marston Bacon. ii Marcy, born 2 or 29 March 1791; died at Freeport, Maine, 20 February 1826; married 3 January 1815, Capt.
