PENRICE, Home of the Sawles - The Sawle family goes far back in St. Austell history. When they moved from the manor-house at Towan in 1596, it was to here - supplanting the Dalamine family. They owned much of the land in and around St. Austell, and donated much of it to religious organizations. After the last Sawle died in 1971, this became a home for the aged, and is now part of Penrice College.
