POLGOOTH - a small mining village, near one of the largest mines in the world. At one time, Great Polgooth (a conglomeration of smaller mines with a long history) had 50 shafts busy at one time and employed 2,000 men. The large house in the center is Van Vean, home of the May family since 1856.
