Lawson, Gordon "Pop"
1925 - 2002
Gower, MO - Gordon "Pop" Lawson, 76, Gower, passed away Friday, September 6,
2002, at the Gower Convalescent Center.
He was born October 24, 1925 to Alfred H. and Margaret Pearl (Fulkerson) Lawson in Gower, where he grew up and in 1944 graduated from Gower High School.
He then served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, on the USS LST 803 in the Pacific.
On August 2, 1952, he was united in marriage to Joan Winans. After their marriage they lived in Gower where they made their home.
Pop worked as a switchman for General Telephone Company for 40 years, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of the Gower Christian Church, the Gower Masonic Lodge, the Gower American Legion Post 393, and CWA Union in Kansas City, Mo., where he held many offices. Pop was also a member of the Gower Old Timers Baseball Hall of Fame, coached little league, girls softball, and the Farmer's Bank softball team for many years.
Pop was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Debra Musser, and one brother, Odell Lawson.
He is survived by his wife, Joan, of the home; one son, Dan Lawson and wife Debbie; three granddaughters, Carmen and Rhonda Lawson, and Rachael Liday and husband Mike; and two great-granddaughters, Erin and Allyson, all of Gower, Mo.; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services: 11 a.m. Monday, September 9, at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower. Burial: Allen Cemetery, Gower, with graveside military honors.
The family will receive friends tonight, with Masonic Services at 6:30 p.m. and visitation following until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home in Gower.
