Jones, John Russell
John R. Jones, son of John R. and Anna Holland Jones was born east of Dearborn on the
Jones homestead February 24, 1857. He was married to Martha A. Drais in 1881, and to
this union twelve children were born, two having preceded him in death. Mr. and Mrs.
Jones spent their married life on a farm east of Dearborn and where the devoted wife and
mother passed away in 1910.
He was married to Mrs. Mary Jane Holland Worthington in 1912, and who also preceded him in death.
Mr. Jones was a prosperous farmer, a good citizen and a devoted Christian, having united with the Davis Chapel Methodist Chapel when a young man.
He was a devoted husband and father and will be greatly missed by his loved ones, especially a daughter, Miss Judith, who has been so faithful to him in his declining years.
Mr. Jones took seriously ill several weeks ago and spent some time in a hospital but was brought "back home" where he was cared for by his children, day and night, until the end came Saturday night, November 4th.
Survivors are four daughters, Mrs. Anna Means, Dearborn; Mrs. Jannie Duncan, Faucett; Mrs. Rena Harter, Miami, Florida; and Miss Judith Jones of the home; six sons, Sam, Robert, Tracy, and Jack of Dearborn; Caples Jones of the home, and Tan Jones of Kingman, Arizona; 38 grandchildren, 58 great grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two step children, Tom Worthington and Mrs. Bess Everett both of Kansas City; and a host of relatives and friends - both old and young - who have loved him through the years.
Funeral services where held at the Davis Chapel Church Monday afternoon, conducted by a former minister, Rev. W. H. Allen of Wilcox, and where a large concourse of friends gathered to paid their respect to one held high in esteem. He was laid to rest in the Davis Chapel cemetery under a blanket of beautiful flowers.
Misses Lucille and Evelyn Boydston sang two songs with Mrs. Wm. Foster at the piano.
Honorary pallbearers were, Tom Bruce, Ed Matney, Burr Elliott, Dr. M. C. Boydston, Walter Searcy, Lance Chesnut, Jim Jordon and Dick Hall. Active pallbearers were Russell Jones, J. R. Jones, Jack Holland Jones, Milton Jones, Junion Jones and Eugene Jones.
Vaughn and Aufranc were in charge.
