Hales, Lorena

Miss Lorena Hales Died Monday
HAD BEEN NURSE FOR MORE THAN FIFTY YEARS.

Word was received here Tuesday of the death of Miss Lorena Hales, of St. Joseph, which occurred Monday at her home in that city.  Miss Hales was born north of Perrin, the daughter of William and Isabelle Hales, for many years resident of the Perrin community. She would have reach her 76th birthday December 1st.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in St. Joseph , active in Red Cross, the Polio Foundation , and the Women's Division of the Chamber of Commerce. In young Womanhood she entered the old Elsworth Hospital in St. Joseph for nurses training, and graduated in 1905. She was honored last year upon the completion of fifty years in nursing with a dinner at the Rodidoux Hotel.

Thru out the long years in which she followed her profession her services were sought after, both in hospitals and in homes wherever illness required the services of a trained and skillful nurse. There are many, many homes in this county to which she was called oftentimes for repeated service in some homes. She gave much above the services usually demanded of those in the nurse's profession, administering not only to the needs of the patient for whom she was caring, but frequently to members of the family and the house hold as well. For this loyalty and devotion she was loved and honored by physicians and countless family over northwest Missouri. Her record of service is that of a school of nurses who gave too much, yet felt that they had given only a fair measure-- faithful service which was the requirement of her profession.

She is survived by three sisters: Miss Rose Hales, R.N. St. Joseph; Mrs. Leone Smith, Denver Colorado; and Mrs. Fannie Goodwin, Lynwood, California; one brother W. A. Hales, San Diego, California; also by nieces and nephews, and many other relatives.

Services will be held at the Meierhoffer-Fleeman Chapel in St. Joseph , Friday Morning, Nov. 29, at 10:30 o'clock conducted by Dr. Thos. W. Toler, pastor of the First Christian Church, St. Joseph. Graveside services will be held at Perrin Cemetery, preceding interment at that place.
