Frank E. Hales, 84, of 3627 Hazelhurst Ave., a piano salesman for about 50 years, died Thursday in Toledo Hospital after a brief illness.
Mr. Hales worked actively at the Vinson Brothers piano store until Friday of last week. He had been with the Vinson firm since 1940.
Born in Liberty Center, O., he became a piano salesman in Adrian, Mich. while still in his teens. For several years he was manager of a Grinnell music store in Detroit.
Coming to Toledo 33 years ago, he sold pianos for the former Cable Co. and managed a Hallett & Davis piano store before joining the Vinson concern.
His long career in selling pianos was interrupted briefly when he entered the real estate business in Detroit and again in the early 1920's when he worked briefly as an auto salesman in Toledo.
Surviving are his wife, Ada; daughter, Mrs. Virginia Ritzenthaler, Toledo; brother Fred, and sister, Mrs. Minnie Clifton, both of Liberty Center, and three grandchildren.
The Rev. W. Carl Satre of Augsburg Lutheran Church will conduct services at the Pierstorff Mortuary Monday at 2 p.m., and burial will be in Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery.
