Hales, Eugene Morris
July 19, 1924 - June 25, 2002
"Eugene Morris Hales, 77, Topeka, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at a Topeka hospital.
Mr. Hales worked for the Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center in Topeka and later for Brink's
Inc. before he retired in 1986. He served in the Army at Iwo Jima, Okinawa and Tinian
during World War II.
He was born July 19, 1924, in Topeka, the son of James Clinton and Elsie Marie Martin
Hales. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1942.
Mr. Hales was a life member of Capitol Post No. 1 of the American Legion.
He married Evelyn V. Jochem on Oct. 30, 1946, in Topeka. She died on July 15, 1998.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Kilpatrick, Topeka, and Barbara L. Taylor, Eskridge;
a son, Daniel J. Hales, Topeka; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Hales will lie
in state after 10 a.m. Thursday at Newcomer Family Funeral Home, where visitation will be
from 2 to 4 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice Care, 200 S.W. Frazier Circle,
Topeka, 66606."
