Goehring, Catharine (nee Dean)
1909 - 2006
Catharine D. Goehring, 96, of Arkansas City, KS died Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at the
Presbyterian Health Care Unit. Funeral services have been scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at the First Presbyterian Church. The Reverend Joyce Daniel, and the
Reverend Danny Daniel will officiate. Interment will follow at the Hope cemetery.
Catharine was born August 20, 1909 on a farm near New Market, Missouri to Clarence Dean and Helen (Beall) Dean. Catharine was home schooled by her mother Helen until reaching the third grade. From then on until graduation she attended Dearborn schools. After graduating high school Catharine worked as a high school teacher and then worked in insurance and real estate. After working for several years Catharine decided to go back to school. She attended Emporia State University receiving a masters degree in teaching. When she finished college she moved back to Arkansas City to teach Accounting at Cowley County Community College. Catharine was extremely proud of her students. When she was out in the community and saw her students she would always proudly point out to her friends, “That’s my student!.” Catharine also had a passion for playing golf. When she was 95 years of age she was still walking the coarse and swinging her clubs.
On August 12, 1935 Catharine married Albert E. Goehring. The couple made their home in Ark City. They were also members of the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include three nieces; Charlene, Merle, and Patty.
She was preceded in death by her husband Albert in 1994, her parents, and three brothers; Sidney, Charles, and Merlin.
A memorial has been established with the First Presbyterian Church or the Cowley County Community College. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
