Source of Census Information The National Archives (TNA, previously the PRO or Public Record Office) are guardians of the original documents for all English census years. These can be viewed at the TNA, Family Records Centre, or many local record offices including the Centre for Kentish Studies at Maidstone. 1841 Census There are various CDs available with copies of the 1841 census for Kent. As far as I am aware there are no other indexes available for the Staplehurst 1841 census. 1851 Census As far as I am aware, there is not another index or transcription of the Staplehurst 1851 census. I have not been able to purchase a CD with the 1851 census for Kent to date, although several companies have announced plans to provide this in the future. 1861 Census There are CD's available containing Kent 1861 Census enumerator pages, Archive CD do an excellent quality but there are other suppliers with this census as well. In March 2005, the TNA included the 1861 Census on the Online Documents Site and Ancestry now also have a copy. With both these online sites you can view the original enumerators pages. 1871 Census Original documents are as above. The KFHS (Kent Family History Society) have produced a CD of census transcriptions which includes Staplehurst 1871 Census. Ancestry also has the census on-line with actual enumerator pages to view and a surname index. 1881 Census
