Jaroniewski Braden overview of
|
Mlynarek / Monarek / Mlinar John Mlynarek was born around 1870 in Poland. At some point, he married Anna (maiden name unknown) (b. c1880). John immigrated around 1890 and was a naturalized citizen by the 1910 Census. Anna immigrated around 1904 and was naturalized around 1906. John and Anna are listed on the 1910 Census as having been married for only one year, but they were listed as having three children: Apolonia (b. c1896), Rose (b. c1900), and Wladyslaus (b. Aug 1909). Perhaps they lived as common-law partners before getting married, but it is also possible that John was recorded in the 1900 Census as "John Monarek", married to "Agenes" ("Agnes"?). If so, then John was born in January or June (the Census form is hard to read) of 1872; Agnes was born in Dec 1873. John and Agnes are listed as having two living daughters: Apolonia (b. Feb 1896) and Rosa (b. Sep 1899). (Two other children had died.) John and Agnes had been married for six years and had both immigrated in 1891. The family lived in a mortgaged house in Toledo (Lucas County), Ohio; John was working as a wood turner. In 1910, John and Anna were living in Toledo (Lucas County), Ohio, in a house they owned outright. John spoke English and was working as a cutter in a chair shop. Anna spoke only Polish. Their daughter Apolonia, only fourteen years old, was working as a sewer in a mitten shop. By the 1920 Census, Apolonia had changed her name to "Pauline", married Dominik Jaroniewski, and had her first son, Leonard. Dominy had immigrated from Poland in around 1912 and had been naturalized, but he still spoke Polish. Pauline and Dominy had married around 1916; Leonard was born around 1917. Dominy was working as a machinehand at a factory; Pauline was keeping house. The family was living in a rental house in Toledo (Lucas County), Ohio. Meanwhile, John and Anna were also living in Toledo (Lucas County), Ohio, in a rental unit. John still could not speak English, and was working as a factory laborer. Their son Wladyslaus had changed his name to "Walter", and they'd had two more children: Isador (b. c1910) and Louisa (b. c1914). We think Isador later changed his name, also, to "Theodore". If so, he was born on 09 Nov 1910 and died on 09 May 1989, still in Toledo. His death records lists him as having been married, but we can find no further information on him. By the time of the 1930 Census, Dominik Jaroniewski had disappeared; we can find no further reference to him. Pauline was living in Toledo (Lucas County), Ohio with her brother Walter, and her two sons, Leonard and Daniel John. Daniel John was born on 27 Jun 1920 while the family lived at 1148 Indiana Avenue, Toledo, Ohio. He was born at 5am, with delivery assisted by midwife Frances Garwacka. (The delivery was possibly a home birth; no hospital is listed on the birth certificate.) Walter was supporting the family by working as a gas-station attendant. The family lived in a house that rented for $15 a month; the family owned a radio. Pauline later married George McLean, which is how her children ended up with this last name. (For a while, her boys went by an Anglicised version of Mlynarek, possibly "Mlinar", before settling on "McLean".) But George McLean disappeared, too. Pauline ended up running an "inn" (bar / restaurant) and supporting herself and her sons by herself. |
