The first 4 children of Betsey and Samuel died young. Samuel Stone,
Jr. was described as very promising and was sent to Harvard, but did
not graduate. He was associated with Rev. Gershom Buckley of
Wethersfield. "He fell into intemperate habits and was excommunicated
by the church. One dark October night in 1683, he left the tavern and
