Irene was an only child. She grew up on her father's fruit farm in the
town of Greece, NY. There she learned many of the arts of homemaking
at which she later became an expert. Because her mother suffered
severly from Diabetes, Irene had to leave Charlotte Highschool before
graduating. Judging from the pride she took in the accomplishments of
her children and grandchildren, she would have appreciated a more
extensive education. As it was, she was always an avid reader on many
subjects. Her primary interests were the skills necessary to raising a
family and keeping a home. Few of us who knew her wil forget the
wonderfull holiday meals and fabulous picnics at Canandaigua Lake.

Directory of the Ancestral Heads of New England Families
1620-1700: Robert Kitchell was at Guilford, CT, 1639; the following
year removed to New Jersey. Was given power, in 1665, to hold court at
Guilford but next year removed to New Jersey where he was distinguished
and is called in history the benefactor of Newark. His widow removed
to Greenwich, there died 1679 John Kitchell, shoemaker, freeman, Salem,
MA 1643. (perhaps a brother to Robert) NEW ENGLAND MARRIAGES PRIOR TO
1700: Kitchell, Robert 1604-1672, first married in Rolvendon, England.
2nd marriage to Margaret Sheafe: m. lic. 21 June 1631, m. 21 July 1632,
Canterbury, Eng., 9 Jan. 1632; Guildford, CT. "The Abridged Compendium
of American Genealogy:" p 693: Robert Kitchel (1604-72) from England
with his wife and family to Guilford, CT, 1639) married Margaret (d
1682), daughter Rev. Edward Sheaffe, of England. History of New Haven
Colony: 29 Sept 1639 Robert Kitchell and others purchased from an
Indian Squaw whole lands called Menuncatuck for them and their heirs.
"Jersey Genealogy" Robert Kitchell and his son Samuel Kitchell
settled in Guilford, CT in 1639 and owing to a disagreement with the
New Haven Colony, not liking the consolidation with the New Haven
plantations, they moved in 1666 to what is now called Newark, NJ,
settling there. Both their names figure largely in the history of
Guilford from 1639 - 1666 when the Newark history takes up the family
name, the son, Samuel, being particularly active in the early days of
Newark. But in 1716, Abraham, his son moved out of Newark and settled
in Hanover, Whippany, etc. Abraham married Sareh Bruen, who traces one
of her descent back to the year 560. Abraham had three sons, Joseph,
John and David. Genealogy of the Robert Kitchell family: Born in
England 1604, died 1672, wife Margaret d. 1682. Daughter of Rev.
Edward Sheafe, of Cranbrooke, Kent, England. They left England, April
26, 1639, with a company of Puritan refugees, led by Rev. Henry
Whitfield, in the first vessel that anchored in the harbor of
Quinnipiac, now New Haven, CT. While yet on shipboard, this company
bound themselves in a "Plantation Covenant" to "sit down and join
themselves together in one certain plantation;" and they soon settled
in Guilford, choosing the borders of the special reason that there they
would be out of the jurisdiction of the Connecticut Colony.

29 SEPT 1639 Robert Kitchell and others purchased from an Indian
squaw
whole lands called Menuncatuck for them and their heirs. (History of
