My story about Pegge .... before she sent her's in, so I'm choosing to leave both in.  barbara

Pegge was born with two strawberry birthmarks, one on an upper cheek and the other on a lower cheek. Can't tell you about the lower one, but the upper one has pretty much faded away. No longer red. She also had one eye that was bound and determined to cross and wore her first eyeglasses when she was under a year old. When you see a group of people in a photo and can't make out just who is whom ... the one with her little hand over her eye will be Pegge.

As with all the rest of us Stallman kids, Peggy was baptized  at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Reliance. She attended  Reliance Consolidated then North Cooper School after we were made wards of Aunt Victoria. When Pegge was 11, she was sent, by Aunt Victoria, to Chamberlain to work for the Moleseed family housekeeper/baby sitter. When they left Chamberlain, Pegge went to work for the Geddes family. During this time, she attended Chamberlain School. When the family moved to Kadoka, Peggy moved with them.

By 1959, she was in Farmington with her sisters, Frances and Barbara, and mother and step-father, Ann and Fuzz Cordry. She followed Barbara and Ed to Cortez, Colo. and on to Blanding, Utah, before returning to Farmington and enrolling in beauty school. There, she met and married Marshall Smith.

1969 found them back in Farmington where she opened an employment agency. Marshall eventually went to work with her. In October of 1979, they were in Palma de Majorca, Spain (Balaric Island) where their front yard was the Mediterranean Sea and Marshall was working in the oil fields of Hass'R Mel Algeria.

Before returning to the states, they found themselves in Al Khobar, Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia and by 1983, they were "forced" to live in a 30-room mansion in Bahrain, Spain. Their daughters were schooled in Spain. As everyone worked and attended school, Pegge was mastering the art of oil painting. She always said when the family was all together on the weekends it could get pretty hectic with her speaking English and the other three speaking the "flavor of the week."

After returning to the states they, lived at Farmington before purchasing land near Etoile, TX where she lived until her passing Jan. 14, 2008.

Pegge was such a love and a true Stallman! She was a working fool and from  day one, was the main force in her  household ... in charge of it all ... She loved her husband and family completely. Such a good grandmother and caretaker for Marshall.  Her main goal in life was to eventually get off the acreage and back "home"  to Farmington. 2007 found them in Farmington for an unplanned extended stay (with Marshall's mother) of about three weeks. When they returned home, she wrote in her journal that she never thought she would be happy to see Texas again, but was so happy to be back home and was never going to leave!

Two of their grandchildren had graduated and the third had moved to Fort Worth to be with her mother. Life was good ... they had put their Farmington property on the market. She was giving their home a facelift, had a wonderful Christmas that included a phone call from their ex-son-in-law and grandchildren who live in Bahrain, and to top it all off ... she finally got the little red wagon she had always wanted! Then, they planned on traveling and enjoying the rest of their lives together. Sadly, that was not to be. Her heart attack hit Jan. 8, 2008, as she was taking the decorations from the Christmas tree at the Senior Citizen's Center at Etoile.  Pegge passed away in Nacogdoches, TX from the heart attack.

Pegge's side ...  She sent this to me in 2007 for inclusion in our Stallman family history. barbara

A LITTLE SOMETHING ABOUT US!
We, Marshall and Pegge, were married in Farmington New Mexico  December 16, 1960. Throughout our lives we have lived in Farmington , Houston and abroad.

We have two daughters, Michele and Marsha, both were born in Houston, Michele September 8th 1966 and Marsha October 15, 1967. We have six grand-children, Marshall Jose (MJ) Smith (21), Naquita Al Sisi (20), Sami Al Sisi (19), Joe Smith (18), Ines   "Ness" Smith (16), and Salmon Al Sisi (12). Our first-born child, Marshall Wayne Jr., died at six weeks from SIDS and is buried at Farmington.

Marshall was born in Crockett Texas  October 30, 1938, to Homer Marshall Smith and Ruth Draper Smith. Pegge was born in Chamberlain South Dakota January 26, 1943, to Albert Theodore Stallman and Anna Kathryn Black-Stallman.

In October of 1979, Marshall went to work for Parker Drilling Company as a Truck Pusher, and worked in the oil fields in Algeria . The girls and I followed him in January of 1980, and moved to Palma de Mallorca , Spain. Michele and Marsha attended the American School of Mallorca , where both graduated. Marshall worked seven days in the field, and was home on the island for five days .... OH! what a wonderful life!!

In 1982, he was hired as Operations Manager of a Lebanese company and went to work in Bahrain (Arabian Gulf), and we soon moved to Saudi Arabia . Marshall traveled extensively, which left me stuck in Saudi (that was hell!). [The girls were still in school in Spain ] We moved back to Bahrain , which allowed the girls to come visit us during breaks in school, and I spent a lot of time in Palma when Marshall was traveling. Life in Bahrain was good, it is mostly European culture, and was comprised of people from all over the world. We had the opportunity to spend a lot of time in London , and would meet the
girls there for mini vacations. We celebrated our 20th anniversary in Paris , and our 24th London .

We returned to the US in 1987, and lived in Farmington  and later in Houston , then back to Farmington ....  Farmington will always be 'home' to me!!.

In 1994, we acquired MJ, Joe and Ness and moved to Etoile , Texas (where we are still 'stuck'). We adopted the three grandchildren in 1997. I went to work at Stephen F Austin University and Marshall became 'mom' and took care of the kids and property. Late 1998, I developed an eye infection, which left me blind. In Dec of 2002, I had a cornea transplant, which restored my vision, by early/mid 2003, I was once again able to drive!

Now, in 2006, as I write this, Marshall 's health is failing. He suffers from COPD and Parkinson's, and has had two heart attacks and strokes, and several small strokes. ME? .... as long as I can keep up with my contacts (I am terrible about losing or breaking them!), I am in good health. I had a major heart attack in March of this year, but healed and recovered quickly!

We are looking forward to kids graduating, and we can start doing some traveling!

February 2007. Since I wrote the above, Marshall ’s Parkinson has moved up to the next stage. He is having tremors and losing his balance more frequently,. The doctors have increased his medication for the Parkinson’s. In January, I had another heart ‘event’, which did some damage to the front of my heart, and of course, I now have another stint! So I am trying to be a good person, the last cigarette I was on Halloween ’06 (please note … I did not say I quit …. I want a cigarette!!!), I quit chewing my nails after 60+ years, and I am trying real hard to lose some weight! Life is tough! … no smoking … and a little food …. Oh hell … just give me a drink! … Oh ya … I did have to buy another contact …. this is my 5th set!!

MJ and Ness are also in Fort Worth. MJ is attending college, and Ness is still in high school, but wanted to live with her mother, I believe a teenage girl needs her mother. Joe is here with us, he will graduate from high school May of this year (2008) .

January 8, 2008, as the ladies were taking the Christmas decorations down at the senior citizen's center in Etoile, TX, Pegge had another heart attack and passed away at the hospital in Nacogdoches, TX Jan. 14, 2008. She has left a major hole in all of our hearts and is missed terribly. There will never be another Pegge ... What a life she lived and she and Marshall lived their lives to the fullest, full steam ahead.    January, 2009, Marshall is in a nursing home in Fort Worth, TX to be near his daughter and three grandchildren and is doing fine now that someone is controlling his meds and monitoring him for strokes.  barbara

January, 2010 - Marshall now lives in an assisted living facility in a nice big room and has many of his and Pegge's mementoes around him and on his walls. He is doing much better (Parkinson's)  and once more his meds straightened out. It is so good to talk to him on the phone and have him be the Marshall we all know and love. He just got a new computer and is on Facebook so he can keep up with everyone and we can all keep up with him.  This is a good thing.

In June, 2010, Marshall will bring half of her ashes to Reliance to be near her parents (Albert is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery and Ann's ashes have been scattered on Medicine Butte near where she was born). The remainder will be scattered in Farmington, NM near their infant son.

LOVE
One morning you will never wake up
.
Do all your friends know you love them?
I was thinking ... I could die today, tomorrow or next week, and I wondered
If I had any wounds needing to be healed,
Friendships that needed rekindling or three words needing to be said.
Let every one of your friends know you love them. Even if you think they don't love you back,
You would be amazed at what those three little words and a smile can do.
And just in case GOD calls me home before I see you again.......
I LOVE YA BUNCHES!!!

Joseph, Marshall, Ness, Pegge, M.J., 2007                  Etoile, TX                Marsha, Marshall, Michele, Pegge

From Pegge's blog - We live in a very small community, Etoile, Texas, which is in Deep East Texas where all of the bugs on earth live. We have lived here for the past 12 years. Prior to that we lived in Farmington, New Mexico and/or Houston. From 1979 - 1986 we lived abroad, first in Palma de Mallorca Spain, then in Bahrain (Arabian Gulf). Marshall was employed by Parker Drilling Company while in Spain (worked in Algeria) ... then CMC Oilfield Services in Saudi and Bahrain ..... So if you ever worked or lived there ... we would love to hear from you.
