Marvin Herman was born Feb. 23, 1934, at Ashton, Lyon County, Iowa, to Lawrence and Ida (Hatting) Stallman.  He grew up on the family farm and attended St. Joseph's School in Ashton. Marvin learned, at age 19, that he had Muscular Sclerosis and lived with his parents all of his life. He worked with them on the farms, first at Melvin, Iowa and Currie, MN until Lawrence and Ida retired and they all moved to Fulda.

Marvin was not one to bemoan his lot in life. He kept himself busy by working as the projectionist at the Fulda Theatre  and for many years was the local seed dealer. He always believed that once he stopped being active, he would die. He was a good son and devoted to his Catholic faith. It was believed that he would not live to his 40th year. In 1974, the  town of Ashton held a celebration to honor him on his 40th birthday.  He was such a nice person.  I'm glad I was allowed to have been his cousin.

Everyone loved Marvin.  He always had a wonderful smile and was one who loved to visit and liked to tease the little ones. He got around on a three-wheeler trike and could scoot from place to place in the biggest of crowds. He never was one to sit off in a corner "out of the way."

He moved to The Atrium in Worthington, MN. While there, he was he was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church and the Multiple Sclerosis Support Group.

He moved into Prince of Peace Nursing Home in Sioux Falls the first of August, 1990, and passed away there Aug 21, 1990 at  the age of 56 years. He was buried beside his parents in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery at Ashton.
