She attended North Cooper School south of the farm through the eighth grade, quitting as most young people did in those days to help on the farm. As soon as she was old enough she left the farm as did her brothers and sisters before her. She worked in Iowa and Minnesota as housekeeper and babysitter until her marriage.
Feb. 2, 1936, Marie married Herman George Hatting at Sibley, Osceola County, Iowa.
Herman was born Feb. 14, 1901, at Spelle, Germany to Bernard and Anna (b.Aug. 3, 1865 at Halverde, Germany) AHUS Hatting. Herman was an honorary member of the Knights of Columbus and Marie is a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and Council of Catholic Women.
They sold their farm in 1979 and bought a new home in Ashton. Their winters were spent at San Juan, Texas and the warm months were spent back home. Herman passed away in 19 and Marie continues to fly south every winter as long as her health allows.
