Harvey Max Stover
1878-1940Max Stover was born Harvey McLaughlin Stover in the village of Basil, Ohio. As a youth he was nicknamed "Mac", but when he was baptized a Catholic before marrying Teresa Rauch, he adopted the name Max, possibly from Maximus.
Max was the son of Theophilus Stover, an educated man who taught in the local schools. Max was a high school graduate who aspired to be a doctor. I
Max was an accomplished artist. He did many original sketches and also copied well-known works such as those by Charles Dana Gibson.
