Hence it was that the apostl so ernestly recomended the Corinthian church to be careful with what material tha bild up the church, lest upon trial of fire tha sufer los. (l)
The brethren hav covenanted, or ouht to hav covenanted to overse and be oversen by the brethren; to kep a peculiar watch over the conduct of the members is the perogativ of the church, and tha ar bound to this important duty: "Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thy heart; thou shalt in anywis rebuk thy nabor, and not suffer sin upon him. (m) This part of christian feloship, wickedly neglected, profesed Christians sho thair indiferenc to the caus of the Redemer. Lamentabl it is, inded, that profesors are no mor inclined to hav the church adorned as a brid for her husband; that tha ar not mor desirous that frendly christian rebukes shoud be given to ering brethren and sisters, and that more atention shoud be paid to Jesus' holy comand: "Morover if thy brothr shal trespas against thee, go tel him of his fault betwen thee and him alon; if he shal hear thee, thou hast ganed thy brother. But if he wil not hear thee, then take with thee wun or two mor, that in the mouth of two or thre witneses every word ma be established. And if he shal neglect to hear them, tel it to the church; but if he neglect to hear the church let him be to thee as a hethen man and a publican." (n)
The brethren shoud not only endevor to maintain the church's purity, but to enlarge its numbers and to give it an universal spred. Put on the helmet and the sword, and be endevoring to cary Christ's conquests whar Satan reigns, and with all wisdom and skill wage war with sin and siners, and overthrow them if God permit.
