| Sprostons
(and Sprosons and Sprowsons) began moving into the Stoke-on-Trent area in
the late 1700s, as the Pottery Industry began to expand following the construction
of the Trent & Mersey Canal. Many worked as potters in the pot banks
in areas such as Wolstanton and Tunstall, while others worked as coal miners
in and around Audley, coal being required to fuel the industry. Some of these early Sprostons are buried in Tunstall Cemetery. Thanks to Derek for these photos. |
