Sowerby Bridge Chronicle
The Sowerby Bridge Chronicle was a local newspaper that was published from 1883 to 1914 in Sowerby Bridge. Sowerby Bridge is a town near Halifax, Yorkshire, UK.
I've got black and white scans of the newspaper (from the British Library) for the years 1899 to 1904 and have extracted the names of people from the Calderdale area (around Halifax and west to the border with Lancashire) who are mentioned in it.
The Sowerby Bridge Chronicle was published by William Ackroyd each Friday and had four pages. Generally, the front page had local and national adverts plus local announcements, page two had the national and international news, page three was a women's page (household hints and a serialised story) while the back page had the local news (at least for the years 1899 to 1904).
Although the local news concentrates on Sowerby Bridge, people from other parts of the Calderdale area are mentioned, particularly Ripponden, Mill Bank, Triangle, Sowerby, Warley, Friendly, Luddenden Foot and Norland.
