Mathew Worth Married H. Ellen Richardson

"Worth was born in Switzerland and his name was Werth Americans called him Worth and wrote it so. The families, his children, now write their name Ward (Mr. John George saw his name written in letters from Switzerland which he read for him because Werth could not read and his wife was Eng. American. Werth had a smith shop in Leopold."

 

 

 

Miller's Chapel, St Michael's, Harrison Co.

Caspar MILLER, born Dec 10, 1847 son of John Thomas and Elisabeth, baptized Feb 6, 1848 sponsor Adam Slett and Catherine Hess.

** Priest's note: "These were the Miller's mentioned in Aldering's History.

"Miller's Chapel." St. Michael's church took the place of the church."

"Nov 17, 1850 St. Mary's Church (Derby) was  blessed by Rev. Kundek"
"St Mary's Congregation Records (Derby) Baptisms, Marriages, Burials" (Father Bessonies at first probable resided at Derby, but later resided in Leopold) was started by Father Benoit (Julia --) and his last, baptized entry is No.71 (Silas Taylor). No.72 (John Cassidy) is the first by Father August Bessonies, recently (Feb. 22, 1840) ordained at Vincennes. Bessonies and all subsequent priests resided at Leopold and recorded Bapts of Perry, Crawford, and part of Harrison and Spencer counties in this record of St Mary’s.
Rev. Joseph Kundek On Oct. 7, 1849 Feast of Holary Rosary of B.V.M. the cornerstone of St. Mary's was laid by Rev. Kundek." (This was the 2nd church at Derby, because the old log church on river bank was gradually being washed (i.e. the ground on which it stood) away by high water."

Do you remember

In 1849 Hiranl Sweet went south with a flat boat of hoop poles, caught cholera on steam boat, returned, died and buried at next landing by boat crew. Son, Martin, later hunted grove, could not find it.
John and ZIEGLER and Mary F. Hollinger said to have come from PA, intend to reform farming methods here, make cheese, etc. live a few years (south) near Chestnut City
