ROBERTS, MARY EILEEN GERRARD nee MORRISSEY
Eileen Morrissey was born at Hawera on 27 August 1907 the daughter of John and Agnes Morrissey nee Wallace.
She was educated at the Hawera convent, and became an accomplished pianist and violinist under Mr Wilfred Lawson of Auckland. She was a member of the St Joseph's Catholic Church choir, Hawera under Mr J Higham and later Mrs Annie Quin, a member of the Orpheus choir and before her marriage a member of the Hawera Operatic Society.
For some years she worked in the business of R W Sargent Ltd (Jewellers) and C C Ward Ltd (Drapers), and then took up nursing at Tuakau (South Auckland) and later at Auckland where she remained for a few years, later returning to Hawera.
In 1929 she married Cyril John Roberts at St Joseph's Catholic Church, and the couple lived at Palmerston North and Wanganui before residing in Hawera again. Cyril was a journalist with the Hawera Star and wrote the "Centennial History of Hawera and the Waimate Plains" in 1939.
Mary Eileen Roberts died on the 27 April 1938 at Hawera aged 31 years and is buried at the Hawera cemetery.
