Bridget Fogerty was born in Killarney, Ireland in 1853.  On the 13 July 1878, Bridget and her husband Robert White Glentworth, left for New Zealand on the City of Auckland.  The ship went ashore in heavy fog at the Otaki Beach on the 22 October, but the 256 immigrants on board were safely landed next morning.


After tramping  to Waikanae, about 12 miles further south, the immigrants boarded the government steamer Hinemoa, which conveyed them to Wellington and Napier. 


Bridget and Robert travelled from Wellington to Eltham where they established a farm, , Bridget living there for the next 65 years.  She died on the 30 December 1943 at Hawera, aged 90 years, and is buried at the Eltham cemetery.
