APPLICATIONS FOR THE POST OF GANGER

The ordinary monthly meeting of this body was held at 11 o'clock yesterday forenoon in the Board Room, Government Buildings. Councillor Samuel L CLARKE, JP, Chairman, presiding. The other members present were Councillors John A CHADWICK JP, H F WAY JP, B T CHAYTOR, Percival CRENE, Thomas WRIGLEY and R C JORDAN. Captain TURNER, County Engineer was also present.
The Council sat in Committee for the purpose of considering the applications that has been sent in for the post of working ganger. The following were the applicants:-

Mr GRASSICK enclosed a very favourable testimonial from Mr Daniel FALLOON, who had known him for the last 17 years. The applicant hoped the late unpleasant affair he had about a day's work, would not prejudice the Council against him, as he was now in a position to prove he was at work that day, and all he wanted was a fair field and no favour.

Mr Benjamin G ARMSTRONG, Te Puna was appointed. It was agreed that the three surfaceman be employed under the ganger at 6s a day wages each, the Engineer to have power to increase the number if required.
