TAURANGA COUNTY COUNCIL PETITION
W A BENNETT
MAY 1898
Bay of Plenty Times 6 May 1898 p2
We, the undersigned ratepayers of the Tauranga County Council residing at Te Puke referring to the dispute between Mr W A (William Atherton) Bennett, maintenance contractor and the County Council herby certify that in our opinion the said W A Bennett fairly maintained the roads under his contract and that the earth put on the road on the Long Swamp could not be fairly charged to him, not the metalling on the Rocky Cutting, as we are therefore of the opinion that the Council should reconsider his case and endeavour to arrange a friendly settlement before proceeding to law. We respectfully ask the Council to reconsider this matter.
