WILLIAM THOMPSON'S ADVICE TO THE TAURANGA NATIVES. (OUR CORRESPONDENT.)
- (Contains a letter from Te Papa (Tauranga) written on the 9 June 1866 describing the camp etc. Has valuable information on the settlement.)

Yesterday the drawing of lots belonging to the 1st Waikato Regiment took place as to those companies who should remain at Tauranga and those who should proceed to Opotiki.

The following is a correct list :

For Tauranga.
No. 1 Company - Captain FRASER; Messrs C PITT and ATKINS.
No. 3 Company - Captain STACK; Messrs HALLOWES and HORNE.
No. 5 Company - Captain GOLDSMITH; Messrs HUNTER and HILL.
No. 6 Company - Captain MOIR, Captain TOVEY; Messrs KIDD and CURTIS.
No. 10 Company - Captain SMITH; Messrs G PITT and COATES.
For Opotiki.
No. 2 Company - Captain LEGGETT; Messrs HURRELL and BUCKLEY
No. 4 Company - Captain BOWER; Messrs GRAY and EDWARDS.
No. 7 Company - Captain BROWN; Messrs TURNER and HOPCROFT.
No. 8 Company - Captain WALKER; Messrs WAY and GORING.
No. 9 Company - Captain SKENE; Messrs ROSS and LAWSON
