Dear uncle
I seat myself to drop you A few lines in answer to your letter. I received your
letter the 25 of March and was glad to hear that you all well. I am as well as
I have been for some time and the rest of papy's folks is as well as usual. you
wrote to come out there but I can't come yet awhile. I am very sorry that I
can't come. the next time you write to me write word what sort of A place it is
there if there is any railroad or town close to your house or not and whether
there is a market close by or not. I live 2 miles from the depot, 4 miles from
Warrenton and about 1 mile from the railroad. I see Aunt Betsy not long ago and
she was very glad to hear from you and she and all the rest well. our crop is late
here. there is so much rain here we have just started to planting. corn like
provisons rising every day butter is 20 cts A lb sugar 40 cts lb Bacon 25 cts
corn 4-8 A barrel flour 7 A barrel. Secons and flour all mixed up. we can't get
no coffee as coffee is __ and meal and salt is almost as scares as coffee it is
12 and 14 a sack and can't get it at that. I see A good many of the georgian
troops go long by the depot here. I see A very large Artillery company and I
escpect some of my kin folks was along if I had known it. I weigh 100 lbs and I
think that young lady was very well grown to her age. we have one good mess of
fish caught with our hands. just went in branch and picked them up and flung
them out on the ground. We caught about 55 in one night and I want to know if
there is as much game out there or not and if there is any stream to catch
fish. I will send you A piece of my hair.
