Atlanta, Georgia
August 20th 1862
Dear wife
I now take the pleasure and opportunity to communicate a few lines to you. I am
sorry that I am not well yet. I am yet plagued with my cough. I hope these
lines may find you and the children all well. I want to see you all very bad
but no furlows is to be had now. every thing is verry high here. beef is from
10 to 16 cts per lb. chickens 40 to 50 cts. eggs 35 to 45 cts doz. apples and
peaches $1 per bushel or 10 cts per doz. butter ___ cts. It is hard for sick
soldiers to buy any thing to eat at these prices if you see any chance to send
me any little thing and not disfurnish your self I would receive it with
pleasure. but don't put your self to no trouble nor disfurnish your self with
nothing. I want you and the children to live. I have not seed a letter from you
in 3 weeks but I hope I will hear from you now I have got to Atlanta. rite to
me if you have herd from our regt and where they are. rite to me how you are
geting along and how your cropis. give my best respects to all inquiring
friends. tel the children I would like to be their to eat peaches and
