Camp near Dalton ga
April 13th 1864
Dear wife
I wil rite you a few lines to let you know that I am wel hoping those lines may
find you enjoying the same blessing. I have just goten off of picket. I do
everything they put upon me. I am stouter than I have ben in a good while. I
want to see you all mity bad I dont no how bad. I want to come home. I want to
hear from you verry bad. the boys is generally wel. the army is in good health
now. I hope the good meetings wil continue at your house for I no you see
trouble and a hard time. I hope the time wil soon come when we all wil meete a
gain in peace to enjoy our selfs together again. we are getting along here the
best we can in this troublesome war. I have nothing much to rite to you. I want
to know how your wheat looks. I hope the time has come when your cows can live.
If you have any news rite to me. I want to hear something favourable and good.
I think that we are living off of the tyrtles. when we eat up that I dont no
what wil be done next. I would like to be their to eat a mess of sheloats with
you. we see but little of any thing raising up here to eat. I want you all to
rite soon and often. remember me at all times. my main object is at home so
nothing more.
