Dalton GA
February 7th 1864
Dear wife
I have the pleasure of riteing to you one time more. I am wel as common a gain
Tho Im middi week. I hope those lines may find you and all well. I want to hear
from you verry bad. I get letters but Seldom. I need a letter as ____ sergt
stelle comes. I was proud to hear from home. I think you and betty must rite
oftener. I would like to be their to help you to work. I would like to have the
priviledge of makeing a Corp. this year. then I dont know what may be done. we
had a good preaching yesterday and last night. some think we will have to fight
again this week tho I cannot tel whether we will or not. I would be glad that
fighting was all done. I sent you a knife by H. B. Thomas that I got on the
battle ground where they left. John is wel. The
most of the boys is wel. they dont get enough to eat to make them sick. one man
to be shot here today. 8 others sentenced to Death. I would like to no how you
are a geting a long every way. you neede not be afraid to rite any thing to me
that you want to rite. I read my own letters tel ____ ____ ____ ____ I would
like to hear from them. I was sorry to hear that she had lost her mair. _____
had better ly low if we get to come home. I have remembrance of thee in my
prears night and day. greatly desiring to see thee being mindful of thy tears
that I may be filled with Joy. I know that we have to endure hardship in this
world but if we are faithful and perform our duty here we wil be rewarded for
all. I want you and betty to sing the beautiful song O sing to me of Heaven
when I am called to death. I must close. give my respects to the children Betty
Tomy and all inquiring friends. I want them all to rite to me.
