Mrs. Catherine SOLAN Sunday, May 28, 1950 (Submitted by Kay Scott) Photo included with it. Mrs. Catherine Solan, of 6743 Columbia, Hammond, resident for 44 years and mother of a police officer and five well known businessmen, died Friday in St. Margaret Hospital. Her husband, the late Michael Solan, founded the Southeast Coal and Excavating firms now operated by two of the sons. Mrs. Solan, an active member of the Sisterhood of Our Lady of Perpetual Hope of St. Michael Ukranian church of Hammond, was a practicing advocate of good fellowship. Funeral services will be held at Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the residence and at 10 a.m. in the church with Rev. Paul Darmoe officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery. Remains may be viewed in the home after 5 p.m. Sunday. The Czechanski funeral home, 248 155th Pl., Calumet City, is in charge of arrangements. Survivors are six sons, Michael, a traffic officer; Peter, floral shop owner; Steve, coal dealer; John, construction engineer; and Joseph, store owner; also three daughters, Mrs. Michael Petroff of Hammond, Mrs. Joseph Walotka, of Highland, and Mrs. John Zelic of Dayton; 25 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.

She is survived by three sons, Michael (Lu), Peter, Jr. (Lucille) and Richard (Verna) Solan, all of Hammond; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; one brother, Peter (Mary) Evans of Munster; two sisters, Olga (George) Sotak of Hammond and Sue Sotak of Mississippi; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and great great nieces and nephews. Funeral services Monday, May 24th, 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 7025 Columbia Ave. Hammond with Rev. Eugene Meschisen Celebrant. Burial at Elmwood Cemetery, Hammond. Visitation Sunday 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Solan Funeral Home, 7109 Calumet Ave., Hammond. Panaheda on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. Mrs. Solan was a lifelong resident of Hammond; member of St. Michael Ukrainian Orthodox Church and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Sisterhood; member of American Legion Post 126 Auxiliary. She and her late husband Peter, Sr. were the original founders of Solan's Greenhouse in Hammond.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Joanne of Munster; two brothers, Anthony (Mary) Solan and Joseph (Irene)Solan, both of Munster; three loving grandchildren and two great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Antoinette Solan of Hammond and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 19, 1995, 10 a.m. at St. Michael Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 7035 Columbia Ave., Hammond, IN. with the Very Reverend Father Eugene S. Meschisen officiating. Burial at Elmwood Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 3 to 9 p.m. at the Solan Funeral Home, 7109 Calumet Avenue, Hammond, IN. Parastas Wednesday at 4 p.m. Mr. Solan was a founding member of St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church and former owner of Southeastern Construction Co. in Hammond.
